You will probably get ripped off. Must be a scam.

Unless you are buying it from a friend of course.

THe 3gb 1060 should be avoided like the plague it simply does not have enough Vram for modern games.

Nah its from a local pc shop
Trading my gtx 960 plus 80 bucks to get the 1060 and a hyper 212x

Mine 960 had 2gb
So I am asking would it make any diff?

It will be a improvement but I say don't do it and keep saving up for a 1060 6gb. 3gb Vram is simply not enough.
Im doing fine with the 1060 3gb. Vram is enough. It cant run games on really high graphics so 3gb is enough most of the time. Havent had any problems.
The problem is the 3GB 1060 is considerably slower than the 6GB, it's not just Vram that separates them, buying now, going with the 3GB version really isn't worth it long term and it won't be that much faster than what you have, the 6GB card us on par with a 980, the 3 is closer to the 970.
3GB not enough for what? Making a statement, without any context, is just silly.

It is enough for what it is, as long as you have the understanding of what settings rely on more video memory.

Considering the OP is getting a pretty decent deal, I say he should go for it, if he does not have the funds (or the want) for a better gpu.

Used 960 2GB = ~$100
$80 cash
Total: ~$180

Used 1060 3GB = ~$150
Hyper 212X = $40
Total: ~$190

A fairly even trade, assuming everything is in working order.

1060 3gb is actually quite alot faster than the 960 2gb

Yes but the 3gb 1060 is a terrible purchase since it will go obsolete within a year.

I would save a bit more for the 6GB card, as it will last you longer for a small increase in price with the way games are using and wanting more and more Vram.
Don't forget that he is getting it for $80 and a trade in of his already old GPU... I think that fact is getting overlooked.

I said that much faster, a 6FB card us considerably faster, the 3 not as much, and it will have the same Vram limiting factor before long,I appreciate you bought the card so want to champion it, but that doesn't change the fact it's worth saving up a bit more and going for a 6GB version.

Edit.

Yes. But if they'll trade for one they may trade for another, and he could sell his GPU for about 80-100 so he already has essentially 180 towards a new GPU.

Considering the options at $180, I don't see your point here. He still couldn't get a 1060 6GB, let alone a new GPU better than a 1060 3GB. He'd need a little more to even get a used 1060 6GB, and that is getting the low ball offers on eBay... which is a gamble on getting a working card or even getting what you ordered.

If the shop is willing to negotiate for a different GPU, that would be an option. I agree here that the OP should ask about any other offers they could do on a better card.

If the OP has an income, then I'd say they would benefit from saving up. I could agree there, but we do not know the OP's situation. If the OP is under age, they will have a harder time selling and saving without an income.

We have already discussed this several times. I want to ask you again: can you give at least one link to the benchmarks, please? Which can prove your claims. Where GTX 1060 3GB at affordable settings (not 4k@ultra) have significally lower performance than 6GB version?
"Significally" means performance loss which can be explained only by insufficient VRAM, not by lower CUDA cores number (1152 instead of 1280)?
