Which is better, a Ryzen 3 2200G or an Athlon 200GE with an RX 550
I and my brother already have an Athlon 200GE in both of our PCs. Mine is in a standard case, but his is in a low profile one which means that I can't put a GPU in there unless it's a low profile card. The Ryzen 3 2200G seems like a perfect choice to upgrade his PC but I also look at the RX 550 which is a bit cheaper and considering that the GPU can fit within my PC, The 550 seems perfect for mine. But which one is more powerful?

Ryzen 3 2200G graphics performance is pretty close to RX 550 but CPU performance is lot better then Athlon.

So we should both upgrade to the Ryzen? Hell, I think I'm gonna wait it out until Navi based APUs come out. That would've been awesome.

It's gonna be a bit of a mixed bag in either case.

The 2200g is a better cpu, but the rx550 is a better GPU. We're talking entry level solutions across the board though. Personally I'd go 2400g for your brother, a nicer CPU and quite a bit closer to the rx 550 in performance.

Never buy an Athlon, period.

Get a 2400G or 3400G, which has Vega 11 gpu.

Make sure B450 or better motherboard that supports updating the bios without any installed cpu. In case you go Ryzen 3xxx and need to update bios before such cpu will work.

2400G and 3400G are fine for many games at around medium/high at 1080p/60

Make sure to get at least 2x 8GB ddr4 3000 and an ssd. You will also want to make your own usb flash drive with latest Win10 64bit so u have a media ready to install once build is done.

Okay, fair point. But a 2400G costs a lot more, like 50% more. Still I'm gonna wait until the Navi APUs come out.

Personally I would not go lower then Ryzen 5 2600 and GTX 1050 Ti / GTX 1650, RX 570.

We already have the Athlon in our PCs. We're fine with 720p lower settings, but I'm gonna wait it out until the Navi APUs come out.

Okay, but I'm a student (that can't earn any money yet) and have a weak PSU and want to game as cheaply as possible.

Just get 2600 and an actually good gpu. The Ryzen G are for people who are ok with an onboard gpu who don't need to upgrade. Cause if you are going to upgrade, why buy a APU in the first place.

Ryzen 2600
B450 board
2x 8GB ddr4 3000
At least 1x ssd
At least an RX 570 / GTX 1650
Windows 10 64bit 1903
SeaSonic 520w or 620W bronze psu

Well they've already been bought and there is a market for those CPUs, even if you're not it.

So they can have the world's finest entry level systems? When people are talking about bottom of the barrel hardware you've got to imagine their budget isn't going to be concerned with some of these optimizations.

Ryzen 5 2600 price has dropped quite a lot because of newer 3000 series, can usually get it for $120.

Then just get a refurbished PS4 for like 200 or less and pay for a sub for PSN

I already have an Xbox One and don't want to pay for Xbox Live. Plus it's not as customizable and games are very expensive and is a pain to actually buy in my country.

You buy the Xbox pass or PSN and you get games for free and get access to some of the latest hot games too.

You don't even need to buy games at full price anymore for the most part.

What country and currency?

Xbox Live hasn't support Thailand yet and I've read about people getting screwed over by MS because they bought stuffs with the country's own credit card. And I don't really care for the latest games since the most recent stuff I play is Destiny 2.
