If something requires 12GB of ram do i need exactly 12GB of ram?
i have 16GB of RAM but it says that 11GB is usable so do i need to upgrade my ram to run a game that requires 12?

If you have equal or more, you're probably safe. If you have slightly less, you may have to make concessions, but it shouldn't be too affecting.

In short, no, you don't need to match the exact figure; sysreqs are not 100% accurate themselves.

Windows uses the installed ram combined with the gpu Vram.

It says 11GB usable so thats 1GB below 12GB so i was just concerned incase i couldnt run it good

games can run with less than the min req ram, but if the system needs (game+os) need more than you have, windows will use the pagefile for ram, and severely hurt performance

too much wont hurt, but there is no point in spending 4-8x as much for 64+g of ram when you only need 8-16g

the minim RAM in the hardwrae recommendations is not for suable RAM but installed RAM...

As others have stated, the RAM requirement is total installed system RAM not Free RAM after Windows boots.

IIRC it usually means the available RAM. So it would require 12GB to run of your 16GB system RAM.

Yes in general, 16gb should be plenty even if a game peaks to using 12gb or more. As what's used in the background for os services will shrink via compression if you aren't constantly multitasking while gaming.

you cant compare smartphones RAM with PC RAM. Besides with Android it is already hard to utilize 4GB RAM.
