Yes, but better hardware will provide a better experience. Don't expect to be able to run the most demanding VR games at high settings.

It pretty much meets the minimum requirements, I wouldn't expect too much from a 5500-XT.

^ and being mobile, it will not be the greatest performing gpu

very good for mobile setup, yes
but not designed for games at max

imho, get the cheap one, and stream to it from a capable desktop
or use it for playing less demanding games or movies

edit: nevermind i was thinking of the steam deck

I would not suggest below a 5600 XT when it comes to that GPU series.
5500 XT is pretty much entry level GPU to get around 60 FPS @ 1080p in most games on a mix of Med/High settings.

VR needs to connect to a GPU that can push around 90 FPS @ 1080p or 1440p

So do you recommend me buying Valve Index or not?
MoonC A T Nov 1, 2021 @ 10:29am
I do not

My son has a GB 2060 mini oc and i5-9400F paired with the Index and it struggles.
If there is any FPS issues or stuttering, you might get a bad motion sickness that might last the whole day. So, I would not recommend this to you unless your brains can handle that.

Run the Steam VR Test on your PC first above all.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/323910

Again, most VR games do not have visual settings like regular DX/OGL/Vulkan games offer.
Most VR games must run with the full detailed visuals as per their design. Any GPU capable of handling VR can draw the visuals properly, however if the GPU is too low end, the FPS will suffer. Below 90-120 FPS range in VR will most likely give you motion-sickness that is lasting.

I would not suggest specs below:
CPU: 8700K / 9600K - or better
GPU: GTX 1080 / RTX 2070 / Vega56 / 5600 XT / 6600 XT - or better
RAM: 16GB minimum
Drives: at least one SSD
OS: Win10 64bit 21H1 or latest public build of Win11 64bit

And check the requirements of the VR; some may use DisplayPort + a couple USB 3.x ports. Some might use HDMI.

Well the 5600 XT would still be a VR entry level GPU; but at least it would handle most VR game titles. Something that's never going to run well on a 5500 XT

Given the market right now; you're best bet is probably one of these...
NEW RX 6600, 6800 or 6900 series
USED GTX 1080 Ti / 2070 Super or better

SteamVR Performance Test says i am comletely ready for VR....
SeriousCCIE Nov 8, 2021 @ 11:03am
Worden, if you trust the SteamVR Performance test, I would like to let you know that the video card I bought new in 2013 also said that.

Maybe that is not wrong, but I have upgraded away from that card twice already.
