I need to retrieve a regedit key informations.
Hello,

I'm asking help of the community for a special quest:

I need to retrieve Name, Relative path, and other informations from regedit ( registry / rush)

about

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{F1B32785-6FBA-4FCF-9D55-7B8E7F157091}

This is the last Known folders error about C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local  path, even if it does exist in both Users, and windows folder, i still get the error.

To fix the other folders errors, i created related folder to the error shown inside systemprofile.

It's about 0x80070005 Known Folders event 1002 error

Thanks you very much

Not really sure what your asking for? Looks like you may have some corruption in system files, disk drive or user account. Maybe a bad chipset driver.

Ok, i just need to find the ProfileImagepath value for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-18

and image path of

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{F1B32785-6FBA-4FCF-9D55-7B8E7F157091}

In fact Since one windows 7 update, if you look at event viewvers Microsoft / Known folders many computers on win 7 8 10 11 have event 1002 errors.

Since windows 7 Microsoft-Windows-Known Folders API Service that is used to check Known Folders, is loging errors.

I tryed to see on another hard drive with a fresh Windows 10 install, i had Known Folders errors in event viewvers as well, temporary fix is to create the missing folders.

Some users found that maybe disabling windows search would stop those errors from showing, Maybe windows Search, is indexing some path that didn't exist anymore ?

Sounds like it's time to make a new local Windows user account. Then delete the others after importing your needed data over to the new one.

Then run CCLEANER > Registry Cleaner or AusLogics Registry Cleaner

This may well solve your issue although I would run ccleaner first and look to the user account if its not successful, ccleaner is very good at registry cleaning and will remove these errors.

With ccleaner, run it several times until it comes up error free, then reboot and run it once more to check it remains that way.

I really don't recommend using any registry cleaners.

Thanks for the informations, i need to find the right words:

Since a certain update of windows 7, even with a clean install / or installing on a new hard drive

Many computer in event viewer, show Known folders errors.

Therewould be a way to stop showing those errors, by changing with regedit a certain reg key from ...\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\local to ...\Users|(your Username)\AppData\Local

i won't do that, as the default path is the good one.

It's just to say something trigger errors with Known Folders, if not modifing path to /Users/yourname/AppData/Local ,but it's completly wrong to do this.

I mean i have no knowledge about how windows work, and event viewer is not usefull for a non tech savy guy like me.

It's just by creating new folders inside Windows\System32\config\systemprofile that was missing from the report in event viewer, the log error disappear, minus one that is about Local folder.

Ok nevermind, i was just checking if the reg key i told in preview message, had the right values.
But nevermind :)

What your looking for is only going to hide the issue not solve it. The most likely reason is file corruption on the hdd, possibly bad sectors and windows is having trouble reading them. If thats the case then you may want to consider replacing the drive.

Not to say thats your issue, just the most likely cause imo.

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/047bdb94-9958-4e8e-a112-4555e1ee3ad4/quotknown-foldersquot-errors-in-event-viewer

People trying to find solutions, but some are about changing path to something that is not default path.

https://myadminjournal.blogspot.com/2013/12/error-0x80070002-occurred-while.html

Changing path of NT AUTHORITY would be looking for troubles.

The thing is since windows 7, i had new hard drives, did new windows 7 installs, then later windows 10.

There was always errors.

Thing is many users never have to and will never check the evenr viewer.

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Launch permission for the COM Server application with CLSID

Those type of errors are not errors, it work as intended by not granting local launch permission for ...

Anyway i will phone to a friend, and compare some reg keys with mines.

Repairing windows with sfc or dism or reinstalling would help, but it's not always the only solution for everything.

As an exemple, I remember using old version of kaspersky removal tool ( official remover)

It would trigger VSS error 0x81000203 solution was :

After restoring the registry entry UpperFilters (REG_MULTI_SZ) with values volsnap and fltsrv, removed from KAVREMOVER, in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{71a27cdd-812a-11d0-bec7-08002be2092f}

computer protection works again

If i had to reinstall entirely windows just ofr a thing that could been fixed with regedit, i would have to do a reinstall every months.

With Linux distribution, i think it's possible to repair everything.

Windows has it's own way to repair things, but it's about in place upgrade, in place upgrade without keepinf files, or entire windows reinstall.

Its never a good idea to keep using the PC long term after doing an in-place upgrade; such as going from Win7 to 10; or from 10 to 11. Just download the latest official ISO of the OS you wish to install (such as Win10 64bit) and then make your own bootable USB Flash Drive. Boot from this USB and wipe the OS Drive and do a clean install. Before doing so, always power down the system and disconnect any secondary drives you may have. They can be re-connected later after the OS is fully installed. If you did an in-place upgrade and the OS activated, then you shouldn't need to worry about your product key to be re-entered; as the MS Servers will re-activate that OS again on the same Motherboard.

If you do need to enter your product key to activate the new OS; such as using a 7 key for 10; or a 10 key for 11. You do not enter this key during the installer. You install the OS while off-line, then once you make your OS user account, connect to internet, then go to the activation page (WINKEY+i > Updates & Security > Activation) and in there is where you would enter the product key of the previous legit OS in order to freely activate the new OS.

Yes off course, a full windows install after an inplace upgrade from swapping operating system like 7 to 10 could be better.

Windows 10 to 11 is not as a changement like 7 to 10.

I did an in place upgrade few months ago of a windows 10 to another windows 10 with updated usb installation.

The whole windows folder, is replaced by the windows folder from the install media, and i think some files from the previous installation are added to it ( i can be wrong)

With latest versions of windows 10, it does keep most settings.

Anyway

As i tryed to explain, i have three hard drives, one used to load windows 10 for cloning operation of my current windows.

It appeared, the clone hard drive, removed all partitions, and wiped it entirely.

I installed back in the time windows 10 20H1, ( gpt, secureboot...)

And now what ? There was still Known folders errors.

This is why i'm looking for someone to give me informations about what is findable at :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-18

and image path of

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{F1B32785-6FBA-4FCF-9D55-7B8E7F157091}

By the way, a full windows install is not free of errors for some people.
There could always be compatibility problem with different devices or drivers.

Windows depending of the media creation version installed, could have bugs.

Sometime a simple In place upgrade, Keep all files, can help.

Windows 10 and 11 are not windows XP, where if one thing was failling, that could lead to a full reinstall.

I had the case of a windows XP installation, where for no reason .net framework or one of the vc redist install required to install a new AMD driver, was updated, but completely borked.

Uninstall reinstall could not help, old repair tools for .net, that i should never use on 10 or 11, didn't repaired the framework problem.

Then i had to reinstall exp.

I remember before, there was not compartmented, i'm wrong for sure, but my memory is telling me, some librarys was installed then other would overwright them, and it was a nightmare.

leading to need for a full reinstall in wrong case. ( again ai have a failihng memory, so maybe it was another story i was remembering)

Installing or maintainance of an operating system is not easy.

A simple monitoring program install, could for no reason, slow the boot time of windows.
A new driver version, could have errors.

Borked AMDA00 from Asus, driver would never run on z87 motherboards.
Just uninstalling AMDA00 would fix the issue, if loading dummy device: Motherboard Ressource as a driver for AMDA00, while stopping with lots of errors frm services trying to load but failed.

I am curently using Sea Tools to complete a long Repair no the Firecuda SSHD where windows 11 is installed, other one is cloned with 20H1 windows 10.

Autotest success, Smart Success, and one interesting thing I have up to 200Mb/s at Disk information in task manager.

What i dodn't understand is why booting windows 11, every process can't go faster than 12Mb/s

Even on the cloned windows 10 install, when i czan access task manager jsut after logon, i get the same low MB/s rate.

I have another hard drive that is not a firecuda, same problem at boot on a full windows 10 install after formating .

I tryed As media and Intel Sata, i tryed new sata 3 cables, different ports, storahci driver and intel drivers, i prefer to return to Microsoft sata drivers, all the windows installs show disk at 100% usage even if only showing 12Mb/s While System from Seagate full repair i get 200Mb/s.

Ok anyway thanks for all the messages, it's true a full install and sometime wiping entire disk partition before, is the solution

Ok good news all the reg keys on the new windows 10 install of my friend ( he got a new computer one month ago) have the same values.

My friend has lot of Known Folders errors, on a new install and new computer

See this is a bug Microsoft could never fix

Then i would suggest its something that you both use or do that causes it. I have worked on a lot of machines over about 20 years and done a lot of software troubleshooting and I have never seen it.

So you are one of those lucky users with no warning at applications and service logs \Microsoft\ Windows\Known Folders\Microsoft-Windows-Known Folders\Operationals

So in event viewezr at known folders Microsoft-Windows-Known Folders your customers have not this log information ?

At last i'm happy it does not appear on every computers :)

I agree many things can lead to logs errors :)

The thing that is strange is it's my second computer, and always had those errors, even with new hard drives and windows, been it windows 7 or 10, and even 11

It's even at start right after windows install, without any drivers or apps installed.

ANd it's a thing for many many people.

This is like a Vss error if you reboot computer of shutdown, related to a Com, failing to register because computer was in shutdown.

No one found a fix, it's like this since years on many computers.

I understand i may have done something with driver or software installation, but those problems arise even with new computers new hard drive, and with a naked windows without programs.

It doesn't broke windows. But it's one of those bugs that should have been fixed sincre windows 7

It's often times not about the in place upgrade itself, but what YOU are having it carry over. This is why a clean install is always best. IDK why people find it a big deal or something. You should have your PC always setup so if C drive gets wiped, all you might loose are settings.you can backup things like saved game files over time with GameSaveManager
