12th Gen should be nice but its pricing is most likely going to be hefty; plus it will have DDR5 RAM. If you feel the need for better performance after getting a better GPU in the short-term. A decent 10th or 11th gen config (motherboard + cpu + cooler) and re-using your old DDR4 RAM should do fine and save you some $ too. Put the savings towards some SSDs.
Respectfully disagree, I'd say 1080p is more around 1060/1050ti/1660 Super (from my experience, I currently own those cards).
1440p is perfect for 3060/5700xt/etc (I own these cards as well). I've done extensive testing from 1080p through to 4k, on a variety of screens (I own 5 monitors, 2 4k TVs, etc that I've tested on, IPS, VA, and TN)
1440p you're maxing most games 60 or more on a 3060 or 5700xt, easily. Big flashy mainstream games like Destiny 2, Resident Evil 8, etc all run max settings 1440p over 60 on these types of cards in real world experience (not just going off youtube videos, actual use). I'll usually drop to just "high" for more FPS as my main monitor is 165hz and shoot for around 120fps on high.
Thats why I feel its important to get actual numbers from people that own these cards, vs quoting something heard or seen in a video. You have no idea how their PC is set up, etc. And from actual use with many games, people always downplay power vs resolution on these cards.
Or any cards really. I remember a time when people would say a 1060 was perfect for 1080p, 1070 perfect for 1440p, and 4k you need a 1080. As time goes on people just keep bumping the cards up vs resolution requirements, but thats not really the case, especially with DLSS and FSR coming into existence.
Oh for NVME; yes then I'd look at Sabrent Rocket Gen4 SSDs; the best there is.
Ah, okay.

If you can't afford it, switch to a gaming-console. Still a thousandtimes better than to play on low/medium settings. It destroys everything.
I wouldn't even bother to play on a 2060/2070 or even worse, a GTX 1080. Do yourself a favor, put some money aside and aim high.
Go at least for the 3080TI or 6800 XT. It's worth it and its future proof, at least for a few years.
