Thermosiphon Cooling for gaming PCs... An answer looking for a question?

Yesterday I had my first encounter with Icegiant's new Thermosiphon cooler. I'd never seen anything like it before and I was intrigued, so I watched some reviews and was left with more questions than answers.

From what I can gather, these aren't offering any raw performance edge over existing Big Heatsinks like the NH-D15S and BeQuiet DRP4. It's a bit more expensive than either, a lot bigger, a lot louder, and would make RAM access more problematic on most builds. The raw numbers were around half a degree colder than an NH-D15 at the cost of being signicantly louder.

Are these just a new technology that is yet to find its feet, or do they have a role outside of gaming and just not work at full potential with gaming-style CPUs. I'm not quite sure why they're a thing.

Ah. You'll have to forgive me; I've been living under a rock. I haven't been parts shopping since 2017 so my knowledge is very dated.

And yes, I can't really see what these would do better than a heatsink. And a heatsink could do with less bulk and less noise.

Basically the huge cinder block was supposed to be a "prototype" with the expectation that it would get smaller and better with development.

To be fair, the cooler portion did get a lot thinner. But they put a second set of fans on and now it's back to the size of a cinderblock.
