If you bought them before the massive price increase they had pretty decent price going for them.
msrp is $1000, and near identical performance to the $650 msrp of the 6800xt
can pay for itself after about a year of mining tho
or sooner if he watches the coin prices and trades accordingly
As someone who went from a GeForce 6800 GS AGP (got this one used) to a GeForce 8800 GT to a GTX 560 Ti to a GTX 1060, nothing has come along to be a worthwhile performance jump at a similar price point. This is true even if you ignore the 2021 Etherium induced price hikes and only go by MSRP. Factoring that in, things actually go backwards relative to my last purchase. This doesn't bode well for enticing many people to upgrade.
The good part is that I really do not need an upgrade. I am not playing anything new that needs the power. I was thinking of getting a VR after I upgraded. But I do not think I will like VR anyway.
Plus, I kind of have a small pc parts accumulation of video cards and other stuff that'll do me just fine. And there's the fact that I only play at 1920x1080 and 60hz so my gtx 1070 Fe is totally adequate for that. The ray tracing thing generates no excitement from me either. *Shrugs*
I still keep going back to fallout 3 and New Vegas because those are just some games that are very hard to top. Same with the old GTAs. They just don't make games like that anymore. Everything now is a loot-fest cash grab that's released too quickly and quality is so subpar it's disgusting.
I find myself only using new games for benchmarking purposes rather than real entertainment.
Cheers!
Same with New Vegas, game was absolutely stunning at this resolution.
The gt1030 never ceases to surprise me. I happen to own one (gddr5 variant) best $79 I ever spent. I was so impressed when I fired up BioShock Infinite and I was able to play it at 60fps and 1920x1080 and very high preset! I'm like what!! It chews right through e-sport titles like WOTs and L4D. Very strong little tyke indeed. I always laugh when people down-play the 1030 because clearly they never used one.
I kind of understand though, because I had such low expectations for it.
Cheers!
Above this the better GPU would be 1080 Ti or 2070 Super; like for say, 1440p
I think the cards will be higher in MSRP no matter what, even from a wholesale I buy from has gone up so imagine all markets will. Getting cards though is not that hard if you put the time in or do like someone I know and bait miners, he traded 2 x 5700 OC & 2 1080 used for a 3080 new as it will produce more mining power.
Its also about silent stock, no one really announces stock at the moment to keep it from scalpers. Some places only sell pre built pcs or bulk deals. Such as one place I shop sells 5x any 30 series as a bundle.
Advice - look in places you would not expect there to be 30s. Couple weeks ago I ordered 3 x 3080s from a catalogue and would have never expected them to be there, only reason I found them was my brother was looking for a gaming laptop he could get on credit. Turn over every rock, dont buy scalped cards.
