Is my drive failing?

I have an ssd that ejects itself every so often (vanishes from windows and bios until I shut pc down and switch it back on) I updated its firmware not long ago and I thought the problem was solved.

However I left the pc downloading a game and steam simply said "disk write error" (expected since drive had disappeared) and yep, it was gone

I have tried different mobo sata ports and different cables. diagnostic tools like crystal disk info log no errors and show the drive to be healthy (infact its heath % is higher than my non-problematic drive)

so I am stumped. logic would lead to the drive failing but no errors can be found on it

windows logged several errors in the event viewer when it happened:

"An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\DR1 during a paging operation." wirth event ID 51. and

"Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued." with event ID 129

I have intel rapid storage installed also since I have an hdd in the system too. I have heard about something called "link power management". could this be the problem? The drive wasn't idle and my hdd was still mounted which was idle, so it seems unlikely.

What kind of drivers are you using for your ssd? Many ssd's run better with the driver from the manufacturer than the default windows one.

crucial mx300 and crucial mx100. the mx100 is the problematic drive

Try installing the designated SATA driver from your mainboard if you haven't already. Also try to test your drive in another System if possible.

And try swapping the SATA cable.

no other system to test sadly. and sata driver from mainboard? if you're referring to the IRST driver then its already installed

backup any important information on it and rma the drive

Connect the SSD only with the large power cable to the PSU. Leave the small SATA cable from SSD to motherboard.
Boot the PC and leave the drive unconnected for 15-20 minutes at least. This will start a repair route e within the SSD and could fix it. If it doesn't, RMA as mentioned.

i've had it for a good few years now. not even sure the warranty is still valid

If you even get a WHIFF of failure make sure anything you want to keep gets copied. Its heartbreaking to lose ♥♥♥♥ because you didn't heed the warning signs. Yes thats from experience. -.-
