[Solved] Problem with port forwarding
So, I have a Linksys. Before, I had an Asus and could easily port forward. I don't know what happened, but now it just says my ports aren't open. I'm using canyouseeme.org and yougetsignal.com to check, but in canyouseeme it uses my external and for both it says its not open. I need some help, since I was able to easily port forward and now its not allowing me to.

Check your firewall settings to make sure the ports you plan on forwarding are whitelisted. It’s been a long time since I had to do that.

Make sure the ports in question are listed in the firewall exception rules on the router itself.

This, though that depends on the router. Some SOHO (Small Office/Home Office) devices don’t usually come with a firewall IIRC.

I've allowed the ports via windows (Linksys does not have such feature) and it still says the ports are blocked.

Are you trying to host a listen server in a Source Engine game?

Yeah

Post the model number of Linksys router and we can look at the manual if it's available.

Then look it up on here ;-)
https://portforward.com/

I used to host Marathon Infinity (on the Aleph One Engine) games on occaassion with my old router. If anybody needs instructions here PortForard should have it on a per model basis.

You mean that you can't or didn't forward ports in the router or that the router doesn't have a builtin firewall?

Also, when you run your test in those pages, do you have a service running on your tested port?

The Linksys Velop is a VLP01. I don't know if there are different types of velops, but there.

I meant that the Linksys doesn't have a firewall page to allow services through, might have been a little unclear since I wrote this late night.
When I run the tests, I don't have anything except the browser and Steam open.

Ok, but in order to check if a port is open you need to have a service waiting for connections on it. e.g. if you created a port forwarding (let's say 6900 --> 5800) you need to have something waiting for connections/datagrams on port 5800.

OK, trying that out now.

if you hae a modem/router combo and dedicated router

you will need to forward ports on both
from modem to router and router to pc

try on lan and connect to the router ip to test it
then connect to internet to see if modem and router are forwarding correctly

Well I feel like a dumbass. I was trying for hours on end wondering why my ports werent open. Now that x_wing had told me a process needs to be open it finally shows its open. I feel like I should have known that.
