Raspberry Pi 3 B + game compatibility
Soon I'm thinking of getting a Raspberry Pi 3 B + and I would like to know the performance of games like Portal 2 or Terraria, I am thinking about running SteamOs or Ubuntu on it. This is meant to be a micro console I can bring with me and plug and play at a friend's house.

The Pi is a ARM-based machine. Normal desktops use x86. SteamOS is only for x86, Steam and PC games are also only available on x86.

The Pi itself is not going to run Portal and Terraria. It can however stream these games from your PC at home over the internet using the Steam Link app.

Thanks fo the answer I might stream party games like Jackbox and
Ultimate Chicken Horse and also try to get RetroPi as well.
Most people use the Pi as an emulation system, not as a PC gaming platform.
So as far as any PC type gaming goes you're outta luck, but for emulation theres plenty of how to's out there.
you can install the steam link app on the pi to stream from a host pc

everyone here is telling you LIES. You can use X86 Programs INCLUDING STEAM on the Pi3/4 using Box86( https://github.com/ptitSeb/box86 ) and 64-bit software using Box64( https://github.com/ptitSeb/box64 ). It's time to wake up. The Future is NOW.
You could play a Pi version of Minecraft, but on super low settings. https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Pi_Edition
Platform was never intended for 3D gaming and still struggles with youtube videos. So the best you can do is find your way around certain limitations.

And how exactly were we telling "Lies"?
NO ONE Said you couldnt run Steam on it
What we SAID was that playable games will be LIMITED with the Pi hardware itself

And i stated that Emulation is what a Pi would be good for.

And you obviously missed how old this thread is.

three years ago when the topic was made, Box86 was in it's initial releases and was only a few months old according to the github history. You might forgive people for not answering things like it's 2022...

Lies imply malice. Do you think people were being malicious? Or they lacked future knowledge?
Steam is not officially built and provided publicly for the ARM CPU architecture. However, for embedded integration and partnerships such as Teslas testing of Steam integration, there might be unofficial builds. It is imaginable that in the future Valve might consider it beneficial to release an ARM build of the Steam Client to the public and provide a library of ARM builds of games with it.

This thread was made in 2019, before Box86 and Box64 were a serious thing.

Even if Box86 didn't exist, Eltech's Exagear is a thing, or was a thing.
