Brand doesn't mean anything as pc psus often are made by third-party electronics manufacturers.

A quick estimate with 16gb ram and 5 drives recommends a 511W psu.

600W are rarely quality since most decent brands go from 550W to 650W to 750W.
600W and 700W tend to be some rubbish quality or obscure brands.

I read on the jonnyguru site that was the case with Corsair VS models because the 50's are a new design. I don't think it applies across the board as my old Thermaltake 750 is tier D.

By general rule, if it has a 80 plus cert then it is of quality (check for counterfeit though).

Of course, you can also get a quality one without 80 plus cert., but you must do some research to be 100% sure.

Frankly, the only rule you can have is: Below 80+ Bronze you wont find a single good PSU. But many 80+ PSU like the Corsair VS are absolut garbage.

Yes, is efficiency. But the fact that they runned test to certificate gives guarantees that you will get the publicized power output which at least a guarantees that you will have enough power for your setup.

Also, sometines you can find gems in the under the bronze tier (Years ago I found Sentey SDP850-SS).

Guaranteed power =/= the actual quality of the components in the unit

A ♥♥♥♥ quality 80+ Gold 650W from an obscure brand using cheaply made components can still fail sooner than a quality 80+ Bronze.

While it is a general rule to go no lower than a Bronze, the big rule is to stay away from notorious brands and/or certain line-ups like Corsair VS that are known for blowing up. Efficiency rating has nothing to do with that, it's merely the quality of the components.
