Enable 240hz?
Does HDMI support 240hz? It only shows me 120hz.

@ 1080p it should with a proper cable/GPU
Otherwise you may need a DP Cable
But quality of the HDMI cable may also determine whether it can or not

DP tends to be the better option though, if available.

What monitor do you have?

I have the Samsung G9 Super Ultra Wide.

I’m currently just testing with a GTX 1070 for older titles that can reach near 240fps.

If you have Gsync enabled, disabling it should allow 240hz.
May also have to adjust certain monitor settings if it doesnt.

Otherwise, you should be using a DP Cable as that would be the best option compared to HDMI.

Isn't that the screen that is basically 2 1440p screens next to each other? You may need hdmi 2.1 to get that to 240Hz or a dp cable, it's alot of pixel information.

240hz is not support through HDMI on that monitor, it only supports up to 120hz when using a hdmi cable. Use a display port cable to be able to use the full refresh rate.

EDIT: it seems after reading a review of the monitor on rtings.com you are only able to use 240hz through a display port cable with a 2000series cards/amd 5300 and above . Quote "The maximum refresh rate is limited to 60Hz over HDMI, and VRR isn't available. Over DisplayPort, it's only possible to get 240Hz with graphics cards that have the Display Stream Compression (DSC) feature, such as NVIDIA RTX 20- Series cards and AMD 5300 or newer"

i have to say ive never seen such a requirement on a monitor before. @op you are going to have to upgrade your graphics card if you want the full refresh rate.

Except that hes able to get 120hz via HDMI which he states in his OP, so that doesnt make sense.
But DP would be better either way

Hdmi 2.0a (this g9) is not enough to run 240hz. You have to use dp.

rtings are more reliable then so random guy on a forum. if they say it cant get above 60hz with hdmi at native rez and needs DP for 240hz then it needs a dp. simple. also they arnt the only reviewers claiming this. also if i had the guess the OP is either confused or maybe they are running at a lower rez then native and thats why they are able to get 120hz via hdmi.

Never heard of it before actually
But whatever you say
cSg|mc-Hotsauce May 4, 2021 @ 8:28am
Even Linus states using the DP 1.4 and a compatible GPU is the only way to use the full 240Hz of this monitor in his unboxing video.

Unless i'm mistaken
I did ACTUALLY state that the OP would likely have better luck using DP

So lose the attitude.

sorry must of missed that. it was buried beneath all the other nonsense you wrote. not that it matters as he would still need compatible hardware to run 240hz which they donthave. OP is running a 1070 which wont work, only Nvidia 2000series/amd 5000series and above will work as stated by myself and another poster. give me attitude with dismissive comments like

after i go to the effort of stating correct information from a reliable reviewer in effort to help the OP then dont be surprised when i give attitude back . thats all i have to say on the matter as as we are both derailing the thread.

I’m running native 5120x1440p 120Hz with the GTX 1070 HDMI port.

I can provide screenshots, but it makes sense that you suggested that I would have to upgrade RTX 2000 series or higher to get 240Hz enabled.

I plan on getting the 3080 or 3090, but currently it’s way overpriced for what they are asking for.

Heck, I might not even need 3080 or 3090. I don’t play much AAA titles. I mainly play Esports titles.

Suggestions?
