Are you sure the issues arise because the drive in plugged in and not due to gaming?

What happens if the drive is plugged in but you're not playing games?

What happens if you're playing games and the drive isn't plugged in (unless the game is on that drive)?

What game is is it?

Have you monitored temperatures during the occurrence?
Defrag the entire HDD.

Apply OS power options = high performance.

Edit this power profile and set the HDD timer to 0.

5. around 90 degrees :/ im not able to buy a cooling pad right now and i dont know how to keep the laptop cool without a cooling pad while gaming
Where are folks seeing and/or getting this Ultimate power profile? Windows has never had this which tells me it came from your own creation or via 3rd party software.

No doing it wrong.
OS drive = the drive the OS is installed to. Why does that need explaining???

Do yourself a favor, anytime you have a prebuild desktop or laptop, make a self made usb flash drive with Win10 media creation tool from MS official Win10 website. When done, reboot and enter the bios or press F11 or F12 and do a one time boot to usb. Once in the Win10 installer, click Custom. When reach the Drives Listing, click and delete each listing do Drive 0. Then click next to clean install your OS.

Any drivers you need afterwards you can download from the system makers site for your exact model of aystem.

ok listen im not a computer expert if i try to do that ill mess up something and is it possible that the stuttering and crackling is because the hard disk is old like 5-6 yrs?

Do you have another drive to try as a test. For example, if you are running a game off of this external hdd, do you have another drive you can hookup and copy the game to, then run it off that drive and see if your PC experiences similar issues.

But again, if it's a mechanical hdd and not an ssd, you need to take the time every so often so run CHKDSK and Disk Defrag on a hdd
Go into your bios and disable turbo boost a HDD can more issues with a CPU that thermal throttle compare to SSD and heat of 90c+ issue for laptops. This can also happen it HDD it too old and getting ready failed.

It's an external drive though; so no way there is a thermal throttle issue due to drive heat, which is possible to occur when using an internal drive and having its higher temps negatively impacting your cpu and gpu temps.

Check Drive Health by using CrystalDiskInfo.

Check Drive data and free space integrity using CMD (Run as Admin) > CHKDSK /F /R

Run Disk Defrag about once every month and do an entire disk defeag.
