Game lags when in focus??

Ok so i have a computer that from new has only been used for gaming mostly VR and almost all on steam apart from a couple of oculus games. Just recently my frame rate has started dropping to around 20FPS in games, If i ALT TAB to bring any other window into focus the game starts working perfectly. For the most part i can just use it like that but it make it impossible to use things like the voice commands on in vtolvr because it requires the game to be in focus. Any suggestions on what might be causing this would be great!
My specs;
CPU intel i5 9600k
RAM 16GB
GPU GeForce RTX2070 super.
OS Windows 10.

This is a fairly common issue for some folks who are updated to latest Win10 20H2 and/or who might be using the very latest GPU Driver. First thing to try would be wiping GPU Drivers using the DDU app, doing the cleaning of all GPU brands via Safe Mode with this app. Then reboot normally and install a slightly older version (such as 461.xx); then reboot once the install is complete. Do not allow Windows Updates to do any Driver Updates; this feature can easily be disable in Windows, or with the DDU app as an option to the User, which helps put a stop to MS auto-updating Drivers you're not even sure you want to use.

Ok thanks. I'm not really that knowledgeable when it comes to computers. I don't really know why its updating when i have auto updates turned off but on a different thread someone said about a certain windows update causing a similar problem and i do seem to have that update so i might try uninstalling it at some point.

When you uninstall a Windows update, you also need to block it since once you restart one or more times, it's simply going to come back like a bad hair day.

You can pause the update for 7 days via the Settings app, or what I use: wushowhide which is the official Microsoft app that MajorGeeks hosts. I use this to block optional software updates like from Intel. I do not suggest this for Windows updates--at some point down the road it is best to install them. Hopefully, any bugs will be ironed out by then.

Just disable WU for 3 months
