2x RX 480 8gb vs GTX 1080
I have an 850w psu and an i5 6600k(4.6Ghz) built pc in feb planning to upgrade. The time is nigh. apparently rx480 cf has better 4k performance than gtx 1080. Is this true? AMD drivers ♥♥♥♥. NVidia drivers good. AMD temps good. NVidia Temps better. AMD performancw better slightly. Raptr ♥♥♥♥. Shadowplay good. OBS love-hate with me.

Sorry for the lack of structure im tired as ♥♥♥♥.

Need a second opinion.

Only reason i'd go with a 1080 is because you won't fully utilize crossfire/sli in every game. I've got a 1070 though and I'm happy with it

not many games really support crossfire and the rx 480 cross fire if played with a game that supports crossfire usually is just in the fps range of a 1070 so go with the 1080 if your actually getting it if not just get 1070

This is heavy depends on the game, if the game can fully utilize crossfire then it can have a upper hand over the 1080. But overall 1080 will be better than 2x 480 crossfire, in some games.

Choose whatever you want, but you get the most in a single card.

I'm not saying Cross/SLI is wrong or bad in anyways as long the software you want to use does supports Cross/SLI it's great to do it, but if it doesn't, then it's pretty pointless or silly to go the extra mile for something that isn't going to give you the performance, you wanted.

If you do like 3D projects, 4k video editting, or etc... *other than gaming.* Cross/SLI might be good idea to go for as it can shortend or make work better. But if you want less watts to be used, more space, and better air flow in the case, getting a single card that can do the same task would be better.

Again Whatever you want is up to you. We don't know if you're just going to game only or do other things.

-Edit-
If you do plan to Cross/SLI, make sure the motherboard supports it.

I do like video editing and im moving into 4k and i do a little bit of game design. I think I will go with the 1080 because of shadowplay (plays into like 15% of why im getting it over crossfire). Thank you for your help everyone!

Forget about shadow play and just use another recording application that can use the NVENC encoder. Something like OBS. Will be the same, or better, depending on how you set it up to record.

GeForce Experience is more or less bloatware. Avoid it.

The 1080 can outperform 2 RX480s that are not overclocked.

The RX480 may compete but won't preform at gtx 1080 level.

But there is a exception, if you were to overclock both cards to a certain amount you may have a "poor mans gtx 1080"

The general consensus is, if you can match the performance in a single card then the single card is always the best option due to lack of SLI issues.
