Imac 27 mid 2010 Low fps
Hello,

I am owner of an imac 27 mid 2010 with an intel i5 760 with 16gb ram ati hd 5750 1gb and a ssd driver.

In small maps i have 200-400fps but in competitive lets say in mirage after 2 smokes and some flashes my fps drops to 60 and some times lower.

I use 1024x768 and all settings to low. If i use high graphics the drop in fps are around 10-15.

So I have two options.

1) to upgrade the cpu to an i7-870
2) to upgrade gpu to hd 6970m 2gb

Witch is the better? Is it cpu or gpu botleneck?

Thanks in advance

Sell it and buy a PC.

Well, it's still a rather crappy videocard. And that HD6970M is a laptop videochip soldered on mainboard, can not be upgraded.

dont forget that the imac is a laptop embeded with a screen. the HD6970m is the only available upgrade for my mac.

this is the upgrade module.

base on this http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-HD-6970-vs-Radeon-HD-5750 it worth to upgrate the gpu.

Radeon HD 6970M isn't anywhere near the desktop 6970 performance.

Do you really think a 26% performance increase is worth paying about 300USD?

For $300 I would just buy a used gaming PC or Alienware Alpha instead of wasting your money on that upgrade. You can keep the imac for work and switch to the other PC when you feel like gaming.

yes, if i can play over 120fps stable why not? currently i cant afford a new imac so the upgrade sounds good. i just play cs nothing else.

It's too bad Apple uses proprietary video inputs. Silly Apple.

I guess you should just get the new video card and hope for the best, though the best option would still be to get a new monitor and PC and leave this one for work only.

Apple is apple.

I dont want to get a new one. I have some issues and i like my minimal office room. The life of a dedigner.

So probably i will upgrade the gpu and i hope for the best.

It's an old iMac from 2010; you can't upgrade nothing on those.

Seriously; it's time for a new system.

It is possible to upgrade but it's not worth of it.

There is also the option to get the adapter (refurbished for $50) that can connect any external PC to the imac as a monitor. https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B003LGOWNQ/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all

It is limited to 1280x720 max, but it will at least let you use stronger GPU for good framerates.
