GTX 690 VS GTX 970
Happy not so happy Halloween.

Im probably getting either a GTX 690 or GTX 970 in 1 year perioid.

Vram stacks in DirectX 12, this makes both cards pretty much equal, which would be a better choice? GTX 690 has better specs, but GTX 970 is newer.
Both cards would cost me around 200€, I play at 1080p only.

In a years time the next NVIDIA & AMD GPUs would be here; and you won't find GTX 690 or 970 on the market anymore. If you can buy now, look towards GTX 1060 6GB

No point asking about something you might do a year from now.

VRAM stacks only if it's designed into the game code. DX12 doesn't just make everything magically special.

It is also very possible using DX12 to allow a Nvidia and an AMD card to work together in one system (http://wccftech.com/nvidia-launching-dual-gpu-flagship-graphics/).

The game developer has to implement these features in their games. If they don't, it doesn't matter if the game runs DX12 or not. VRAM stacking won't function and neither will the cross GPU manufacture SLI/Crossfire unless it is done by the developer.

As suggested here, if you're still a year out from picking up a GPU, the GTX 690 and 970 will be irrelevant. When May 2017 comes around, the GTX 690 will be 5 years old (launched May 3rd, 2012). At that same time in May 2017, the GTX 970 will be pushing 2.5 years old. Looking back so far in GPU technology, you won't find either of the cards brand new (if you do, they'll cost way too much to be a worthwhile purchase) or the cards will have been in use for 2-3 years (GTX 970) or 4-5 years (GTX 690).

So, look to something newer such as a GTX 1060 a year down the road. Finding one used or possibly new would be your best bet.

GTX 1060 is like having GTX 980, but it's up to you. What website are you looking up to get the GTX 970 from? Also I don't know if any place still sell GTX 690 anymore, and if they did, might still be at a crazy price.

GTX 1060 6GB £197 to £237 = €218 to €263
