you might be fine though it could have just been a glitch.. what ram are you using?? interesting that u are saying u undervolted from 1.5v to 1.35v.. skylake only supports ddr3l or ddr4 up to 1.35v
And BTW the max is around 1.65 or so.
So IDK where you get 3.5V at
And why did you even buy a DDR3 board for LGA-1151?
Very bad idea to be honest.
Anyways, go in the BIOS > go to XMP and select the correct profile.
Or on some boards, XMP is just Enable/Disable; so try it on Enabled if that is true for you.
XMP will lock in the RAM spec'd settings via an XMP ROM onboard the RAM; and in-turn apply those in the BIOS just for RAM.
At the time of buying the "Z170-P D3" motherboard Asus advertised that it supported both ddr3 and DDR3L for the Skylake cpu, but they've since stopped saying ddr3. I didn't think I had to care about voltage as thought the mobo would only work with the right sticks anyway (and I'm an amateur builder), which is true most of the time, but Asus messed up with saying it had ddr3 support for the Skylake.
I know you said it might be just a glitch but it looked pretty critical in the game menu and the monitor lost power at desktop which required a reboot. If it happens again then there's not much else I can do as the voltage should be in the safezone.
Because the board has a 1151 socket and said it supported ddr3 and DDR3L.
Also XMP isn't available as the memory or board knows it shouldn't be there with a Skylake so doesn't give the option. I've undervolted and underclocked to accommodate the cpu but have had to do this again because of the recent system failure.
What is actually better defined as supported will depend on the Motherboard.
Your board supports both DDR3 1.5V and DDR3L 1.35V
However you can NOT mix them.
Then try setting the RAM to SPD
If XMP is not available, and your want it to run at 1866 CAS10 1.5V (the rated specs) then you will have to manually set that via Manual Overclocking.
Just this recent episode after 2 months of normality got me rethinking.
