Curved or flat monitor
Hi everybody, just wondered if anybody has recently splashed out on a QHD curved monitor or flat panel, I have some money burning a hole in my pocket and after seeing my sons 32 inch curved QHD monitor got some serious monitor envy. My question is will i still be able to play and see older games like Civ 3 Rollercoaster tycoon for example. I know they will not display in QHD resolution but what would they look like at the correct resolution or would it make my eyes bleed. By the way I do play new games as well just i like to vary my games depending on my mood, some of these game I've been pl\ying on and off for the past 20 years, when you had a disc and had to install it and half the time the patches came on floppy discs on the front of magazines like PC Format.

Hope somebody can help do i stick with my 22 inch 1080 monitor or go for a 27 inch HD or QHD flat or curved or even go mad and go for the 32 inch curved. As elite dangerous looked awesome on his monitor.

You can't ask us that, because that's personal. Lots of people saying "Flat" it's because either they haven't tried curved or they have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ curved monitor. It's like saying "Claw grip or palm rest mouse".

About resolution, it all depends on what resolution your GPU can handle videogames, I suggest you to check lg 27gl850-b and similars, those are pretty pretty popular right now as they are really high quality monitors

I do own a 1440p 144hz 27" display and it's pretty good, but the color accuracy is trash, so check color accuracy and brightness (as well as contrast) before getting one

i have a dell S3221QS 32" 4k curved screen and i must say it's amazing, once you are used to it.

before i only had a hp 32" 1440p, non curved and it felt weird switching... but the cuved new one is more comfortable for my eyes, especially when i'm reading something or playing.

so yeah generally you'll notice a positive difference.

but personally i wouldn't buy 32" in QHD again, compared to 4k it feels very blurry.
so either 27" QHD curved or 32" 4k curved is probably the best option.

Thanks for the advice I was going more towards the 27 inch, but what are they like on the lower resolutions i know they are going to look block compared but are they reasonable on the non native resolution such as 1280 x 800/720 and 1024 x 768 just don't want to splash the cash and be unable to play my older games

It's more of a question of will the larger monitor still display the older games resolutions without making my eyes bleed or giving me a headache

that's 640x480 https://i.imgur.com/ijn9FgP.jpg
that's the max resolution of 1024x768 https://i.imgur.com/EvbGmzL.jpg

sadly it has no steam overlay so i can't take proper screenshots, but overall the game looks normal to me and i don't think you'll have a problem playing it.

second pic looks a bit blurry but that's cause of my phone :starhappy:

Thanks that answers my question by the way what size is your monitor 32 or 27 inch if you don't mind me asking apart from looking bigger and the curve being noticeable on the photo's they look good to my old eyes.
Just got to see if i can find one anywhere as they all seem to be in short supply at the moment. same thing happened last time i upgraded then it was graphics cards

no problem, as i said earlier, i have a dell 32 inch 4k (model: S3221QS)

not sure what it costs in your area, but yeah, i guess you'll get the same results with a good 27 inch curved QHD monitor

currently running elite dangerous on a C24G1 - the 1500R curve combined with the crazy high contrast makes it quite immersive, and you can actually see the curve compared to the older 1800R models

Could just imagine on a 27" 1500R@1440, would be my next upgrade for sure...

Also worth mentioning that you can get monitors with different curvatures.
I have a 27" curved monitor, but the curve is relatively shallow compared to what's available.

It feels odd when you first start using it, but after only a short time feels very natural.

At the end of the day, it really is personal preference

thank you for all the comments so far, he way things are going with stock etc looking at the SAMSUNG LC32JG50QQUXEN anybody else have this or maybe thinking about the AOC brand but but don't know much about them but the reviews seem to differ widely

agree too much hype and opinion, before I got my monitor I read about it in a real review here:

https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/aoc-c24g1/

confirmed the newer 1500R panels were far better than the 1st generation of 1800R VA panels - then I happened to see it at my local microcenter for $150, bought it on the spot after viewing some fast action scenes... Replaced my ancient 8 year old Acer TN panel could not be happier!

In my humble opinion anything over 27" looks a bit strange if it's flat. The edges just look too far away and the angle affects the picture. So flat to 27" than curved above that. The only time I would say different is for graphic design. It can be difficult judging what is straight and what is not towards the top and bottom of the screen on a curved monitor.

I have the samsung odyssey G7, its a 27'' 1440p VA and the Curve is 1000R its so immersive and the colours are great, i love it, they do do it in 32'' but only at 1440p i think, so it would not look so good i would not think, best monitor i have tried, and i have tried a lot in the last couple of years in the quest for for a decent 1440p monitor, Curved is the way to go i think from now on.
