Laptop shut off and wont turn back on.
My laptop abruptly shut off and wouldn't turn back on. The laptop was running hot, so I waited 1 day and it still didn't work.

I opened it up and saw there was dust, so I cleaned it.

After putting the laptop back together, it still wouldn't turn on.

The charger is giving power, though I don't know how much, and the charging light indicator is not on, even though the charger can supply power.

The laptop won't turn on with the battery, but without the charger.

The laptop won't turn on with both battery and charger.

Well sounds like pretty serious hardware failure if it won't do anything off the charger or battery.

If the laptop is under warranty you might want to start that process.

It's not unfortunately.
if the laptop has no power it could possibly be a blown capacitor
My last laptop failed with a pretty similar symptom which I suspected was the power controller unit failure.

Your hard drive or SSD should still be intact though. I suggest you start backing up the data on it.
Is the light on the laptop ( charging port ) not coming on at all, or is it blinking?

Sounds like PSU, or mobo PSU section burned out.
This will happen in laptops when left plugged in charging, and high use for hours.
Cooling pads help alleviate this.

Sadly, I think you are going to need a motherboard repair.
And if it is out of warranty, that might get pricy.
From just a component swap, not usually done. To a motherboard replacement ( usual repair ).

Might be time to just invest in something new if you can afford it. And just migrate data over.

I am looking at either external gfx ( eGPU ) for mine, or an upgrade just to do dx12 games. Something in my chipset wont let me install newer AMD drivers.

So yeah, think ya cooked your mobo.

Damn... I have been letting it charge for hours on end. Have any suggestions on what I can get for less than $1000?
Remove battery or unhook it.
Hook up the power brick only and try to power it on, if nothing comes up, disconnect power brick and then immediately press and hold laptop power button in for about 15 seconds. Then connect the power brick and try turning it on again.

I've already tried.
Then it sounds like the power plug or the power area on the motherboard is damaged.
Overheating and shutting off before cleaning it. Yeah. Might’ve made it worse cleaning it. I shorted a mobo out once assembling a pc. I don’t envy your position. It does sound like motherboard. Careful with some coolers. My old one broke. A cheapy but goody. Bought a new one with suction. Higher dollar. The outgoing air needs to be separate from incoming air so it’s cooler. I also use a small fan to send cooler air to intake but I liked my cheapy one better. It let that cold air in well. Heat causes thermal paste to dry up quicker. I’m trying to make this thing last with all I’ve got. Already replaced keyboard. It’s a laptop too. Alienware. It’s been a lot of work. You learn a lot troubleshooting though.

Best of luck to you!
How many years have you been using your laptop? Reason being, I too can mentally be prepared for this inevitable catastrophe.

Only 2 years.
Can you look at the motherboard? Is there any singed circuit boards where the power delivery circuit is? You'll be able to trace the PCB lines from the charge port.

I saw nothing that was obvious. I took it to an expert and he said the MB is a brick now.
