GPU completely stops working for periods of time while playing a game (AMD rx 470 4gb)
I have been playing Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War for 6 months now with no problems until recently. For some reason, both in menus and in games, my GPU usage goes to 0% and my GPU fans completely stop spinning, causing my frames to drop for long periods of time. When I tab out and back in, it will work again for a short amount of time before stopping again. I thought it might be overheating but my GPu only gets to max temps of 70C usually and I play on low graphics. However, when I run the game, my GPU is always running at 100% and I've had it since 2016. All of my other specs are great with the exception of the graphics card ofc. Thank you

That is usually what a GPU Driver Crash is. The driver crashes and thus restarts the GPU entirely. The OS continues to run and should all on its own restart the GPU Driver, but any open game (if that did not already crash anyways) will need to be restarted. In some scenarios the entire system may need a reboot for the GPU + Driver to function properly again.

What OS are you running?
Which GPU Driver version is installed?

Easiest way to share specs would be by using the CPU-Z app from CPUID.com
Then run the app and click Validate > tick the Extreme OC box > click Submit
When your web browser loads up with a unique web address for you list of specs; share that web address in here via copy + paste.

poor or struggling psu can cause gpu driver to crash and windows will recover

I am running Windows 10 and my GPU Driver version is the most recent one (21.5.2)

Then download an older GPU Driver, wipe out current GPU Drivers fully using the DDU App. Reboot when done and install the older driver. See if that one is more stable. You might need to disable the auto driver update option in Windows OS to keep it from auto installing a newer driver from Windows Updates.

If what suggests? Where are you getting your drivers from?
You can pick whatever available version you want off AMD's website.
