What RAM is compatible with my PC?
I've been looking into Star Citizen recently and it seems like my PC mostly checks out, with the exception being my RAM. I have about 8 GB and my brother says I should increase it to 34. I know a little bit about computers, but not this much, and I don't wanna go through the trouble of registering an account on some tech forum somewhere, so I'm coming to you guys for help. :P

My PC specs:
OS: Windows 10 64-bit
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor (16 CPUs) ~3.6GHz
GPU: Radeon RX 550, VRAM 2048 MB GDDR5 1750 MHz,
Memory: 8192 MB RAM (8.192 GB)
DirectX Version: DirectX 12

This is all the specs I could find; if there's anything I should add/formatting tips don't hesitate to say so!

Btw: I know things like this probably don't appear on here very often, so if anyone has any problems I'll take this down.

Install CPUZ app.
Run that and click Validate.
Tick the Extreme OC box and click Submit. Share the provided Web Url Address that loads up, into a post here.

What do you plan to do? Unless it's work related, more ram won't help you much. It can in gaming, but your gpu is so terrible for gaming anyways that ram alone won't help.

16GB is plenty, you don't need 32GB.

Either get another identical 8GB stick, or get a new 2x8GB kit, ideally 3600 CL16 but 3200 CL16 is fine.

I thought the RX 550 was do-able for SC?

Ah, thanks! Didn't understand about half of what you just said, but still, thanks!

RX 550 is extremely low end and a substitute for integrated graphics, really isn't going to give you good performance in 3D titles.

Standard 16GB (2 8GB sticks) are between 2133 and 3200 MHz for DDR4. 3200 CL16 is very common and low priced, 3600 Cl16 is the low point for high performance RAM

The limit for Zen2 processors (3000 series) is 3800 MHz -- anything higher will cause latency that a higher fabric clock can resolve, 3600 is the sweet spot for performance and stability, and CL16 kits are more expensive because lower timings translates to faster access times and hence a faster system... not that you really need it because you're using an RX 550, but it goes beyond just gaming performance.

I'm kinda confused. My GPU has managed to run Space Engineers on medium graphics and Subnautica Below Zero quite well. SC still has a ways to go in terms of optimization, so I think low graphics might work, push come to shove? I kinda don't have the money to upgrade right now.

So basically, it's reliable and low priced?

Sure if you're fine with older titles that don't need powerful GPUs. Not what most gamers do nowadays.

Yes, 3200 CL16 kits can generally be found for less than 100$, a lot of cheap 2400 MHz kits that would hold your system back would cost closer to 50~60

For ideal performance on Ryzen 3000, 3200 CL16 is a minimum recommendation

Thanks for your help, I'll look into the RAM! Just to confirm, can my GPU run SC on low graphics? I know it seems like I'm asking the same questions over and over again, but it's been over thirty hours since I last slept so I'm pretty much just an empty husk.

The 4GB model meets the minimum requirements as far as I know. I don't play it, so I don't know how it runs.

I think I have 8 GB so I should be fine. :)

2048MB = 2GB

You have a 2GB RX550, minimum is a dx11 gpu with 3GB

Oh, I didn't know that VRAM and normal RAM was different. So do I need to upgrade to a better GPU, or can I just get more VRAM like you can with regular RAM?
