What RAM is compatible with my PC?
I've been looking into Star Citizen recently and it seems like my PC mostly checks out, with the exception being my RAM. I have about 8 GB and my brother says I should increase it to 34. I know a little bit about computers, but not this much, and I don't wanna go through the trouble of registering an account on some tech forum somewhere, so I'm coming to you guys for help. :P

My PC specs:
OS: Windows 10 64-bit
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor (16 CPUs) ~3.6GHz
GPU: Radeon RX 550, VRAM 2048 MB GDDR5 1750 MHz,
Memory: 8192 MB RAM (8.192 GB)
DirectX Version: DirectX 12

This is all the specs I could find; if there's anything I should add/formatting tips don't hesitate to say so!

Btw: I know things like this probably don't appear on here very often, so if anyone has any problems I'll take this down.

2048MB = 2GB

You have a 2GB RX550, minimum is a dx11 gpu with 3GB
Oh, I didn't know that VRAM and normal RAM was different. So do I need to upgrade to a better GPU, or can I just get more VRAM like you can with regular RAM?
No, you would need a new GPU. You could play SC as is but I don't think the game would run too well in some situations.
anything below a RX 480 4GB or 580 8GB is pretty much trash for modern games at this point.

What if I were to lower the graphics? It should at least be better than my old laptop. Poor thing could barely reach 60 FPS running modded Minecraft, with Optifine.
Gaming as a whole is extremely held back by your RX 550. It's far below what it takes to run many games smoothly which at at least a RX 580 4GB.

Seriously, save up and look to get a newer gpu that is suitable for modern games; such as at least a gtx 1080, 1660, RX 5600 XT

Won't work with a lot of modern titles. The RX 550 isn't really a gaming card, it's more or less like an NVIDIA GT series, a basic replacement for integrated graphics

Okay, I get it now. Sorry if I seem like a brick wall, I was pretty sleep deprived when I made this post, and haven't really been checking in the past few days, so it only clicked in my head just now. I kinda feel like an idiot. :steamfacepalm:

What type of GPU would you recommend? I don't think I'll be upgrading anytime soon because of budget constraints and a lot of game I like are low-end.

Best you can get, honestly.

GTX 1650 SUPER would be a very good start. Wouldn't really suggest less.

That might actually be doable in the near future, thanks!

Also, what do you mean "Best you can get"?

I mean get the best you can afford. The better the GPU and the less strict your standards are, the longer you can hold off before the next GPU upgrade.
