Steam download cause cpu usage 100%
So I'm currently downloading games on my PC, . My CPU usage is at 100% when download it and my temps are at 64C*-71C* . Why is it using my CPU to download? . It is a steam bug or what? ,
I have Ryzen 5 2600x

Steam downloads compressed files, which then uses the cpu to unpackage the compressed files to the drive.

Steam downloads and unpacks. Throttle the download speed maybe? What download speed?

press windows key + x and click on task manager to see if other stuffs using up resources.

How fast is your download speed? Might be dependent on other things. 100% seems excessive. Might have other stuff going on.

If you're downloading very quickly, enough to also push the cpu to 100% then yes, especially if using an SSD or NVME drive.

Edit: Temps are good, manufacturers max temp is 92C for that CPU.

I put my game on the ssd and hdd both of them are using the same cpu usage when i downloading games on steam, but i think this is not the big trouble at all if you say soo.

My CPU is a 6 core CPU, i have never seen more than 10% CPU usage during download, I download big big games every week. Without download, running steam alone takes 2% CPU usage,

At 7 MB/s download I get about 6-8% cpu usage on an i7-3770k 4 core 8 thread cpu. No browsers open etc... just Steam + download.

On idle I get 0-1% usage on steam but I am guessing stuff is turned off.

Might be stuff running in your pcs background adding to your usage? Opening and closing a browser will also add usage.

mechanical hdd or ssd?

Sounds like your system lacks the amd ryzen chipset driver and nvme driver. Without it you are using what Windows provided which is a generic driver and it will make the system tax the cpu very hard because it's basically not using the system correctly. Also regardless of pc specs, set the Steam > settings > Library to low bandwidth and low performance mode, it helps quite a bit.
