Vive Pro 2
Vive Pro 2

*EDIT:- Returning this device for a full refund, the displays are broken like others are posting.

I had an email yesterday stating it has shipped and that it could take up to 2 weeks. Well, I got it the very next day! I was very surprised.

- Zero screen door effect
- FOV is not an issue, as I have the thinner Kiwi VR cover face pad
- Very comfortable & evenly balanced
- Sweetspot, still struggling, but it's "OK". You do have to have your eyes below center of the lenses.
- Clarity/sharpness - it almost feels like there is a plastic film on the lenses. I have it on High setting as I only have the 1080TI. I need a better card with display port 1.4 to unlock Ultra and Extreme modes.
- God rays are a ♥♥♥♥♥ across all text
- LCD and the black levels - dark scenes, yes they are grey and not black.
- Panel is quite dark compared to the original Vive which was almost blindingly bright
- Sound is good with the on-ear headphones

Conclusion: I'm keeping it, but I agree with the other reviewers out there, it's not a pro. Definitely a HMD that will appreciate RTX 3000 or future graphics cards.

I'm also using the Index Controllers and original Vive Basestations. The wands are not needed in 2021!

I agree with you on this full heartrendingly. I have a 3090 FTW and I do get the feeling of a little loss of clarity as well. May just be me trying to figure this out with settings though as I am a VR newb. Sweetspot is a little rough for me to find and i do have a blurred distortion moving out from the center towards the edges especially on text. Extremely noticeable and was the first thing i noticed even before the wow factor. May be me again. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the index controllers to do the view pass through on the headset so I can see the room without removing the headset. If you are familiar or figured that out I'm all ears.

I can hear a low humming sound from the speakers. I thought it was just me, but then in a silent scene with no sound playing, I can hear it. I now cannot unhear it and it's there all the time. I then checked online and I can see a lot of people stating the same. It's not massively distracting, but it's there. When hearing sounds in game, it's present until the volume of the game gets higher.
From what speakers?
On the Vive headset itself?

No the speakers in my car. Yes from the headset lol that's what this thread is regarding.
How exactly is the headset connected.

Any time evices have an audible hum when connected to something like the GPU or Motherboard Audio, it could be a grounding related issue.

Multiple hardware variations. Reddit posts state all different motherboards and cards. It's the Vive Pro 2 itself.
Then maybe return the headset then if the problem is that common. Look at a Valve Index Headset or Occulus Rift Headset

Sorry, I was posting to make people aware, I wasn't actually asking for help. Sharing the knowledge so people know what to expect. I know all about VR alternatives and my options.
After testing the VIve Pro 2 for a few days, there are some issues to mention to people...

- Low humming sound from the built-in headphones (multiple people reporting the same)
- Screen gets quite warm
- Passthrough cameras not working "camera communication error"
- Some games not loading...

Vivecraft opens, textures look rubbish/horses bodies not loaded and then crashes after 2 minutes
War Thunder just does not want to open up in the HMD even with VR mode turned on

* Using GTX 1080Ti which limits the headset to High setting

All of the above isn't an issue when I used the OG Vive with wireless adaptor.
Still struggling with the sharpness of the display

- Clarity - the blur is just too much. I really did look a few times just to see if there was actually plastic film on the lenses because that's what it looks like.

Note:- I am using a GTX 1080 Ti so I am limited to the High setting. Obviously it's impossible to get graphics cards lately, but would that actually improve the clarity? Bump it up to Ultra or Extreme will clear the text? I don't think I have an issue with the resolution, there isn't any anti-aliasing around text, it's just like someone has smeared vaseline all over the lenses or have I already gone blind?

Anyone tried it with the RTX 3080 or better? Unlocked Ultra or Extreme, how is your text?

I get less headaches compared to the OG Vive as that resolution was too low. This is brilliant for the resolution, it's just the smear view I'm looking through now.

Passthrough cameras fixed - I never opted into SteamVR beta, so when I did that, the cameras started to work.

I have to return the Vive Pro 2 still...

There are some people posting on YouTube, just after a few hours or a few days and their HTC Vive Pro 2 displays are breaking. It produces vertical lines, in the lower half and on both screens. I had my VP2 and it has just done the exact same thing! I used it earlier today, but I couldn't stay in it because the displays look like the lenses are just too blurred. Then this happened...
