Help me choose CPU/GPU combo.
i9 10900KF / RTX 3090

Ryzen 7 5800X / RTX 3080

I have a Samsung Odyssey G9 QLED Display 5120 x 1440:steamfacepalm:

The first has more cores and threads with slower cores, but not by much. I'd say take your pick, but it comes with a better GPU. Normally the RTX 3090 isn't worth it, but if these are the same price, the first pairing is what I'd choose.

The first one for sure, if you don't care about money..

I am curious.
Is it actually practical for you to get either one of those graphics cards?

Maybe you have a lot of money to burn. Even so it may be a problem.

core performance is close on them
the i9 has 2 more slightly better performing cores

This is for a prebuild option. I wouldn't consider the resale market during the great hike.

I would much rather have a 10900K over the KF available in the first option, but I like the 5800X the most. I'm concerned if the 3080 will struggle on max everything with my display.
"The great hike", I like that term.

Shouldn't the KF be the same, just minus the iGPU?

Again, if price is similar, the first option is better, but if first option is at any sort of premium, option 2 is better.

Fact is both options will struggle on this monitor. Not even 2x 3090 will do the job on every game. 1 3090 is not enough for max 144fps/hz and for sure not 240fps/hz. To use this monitor at full potential u have to wait for at least 2-3 new gpu generations.

Or do you have the 120hz version? Even then a 3090 will not be enough today.

You really don't want a 10gb gpu for that resolution, either get 3090, 6800xt, 6900xt or wait for 3080 20gb/Ti whatever it's called..

res makes no diff on gpu ram usage
its the textures, and models that use gpu ram
more detailed models and higher quality textures will look better on a higher res display, but its the same models used on all res options

Res definitely makes difference on vram usage, maybe not as much in every game, but in Cyberpunk for example, at 1440p the vram usage is around 8gb, at 4k is 9-9.5gb..

I have the 2019 model. 120hz version. Now I'm glad I do. Got the ultimate deal on it.
