GPU frequency Dips down !
My GPU Frequency dips down from 1500 to 300/400 MHZ often and its very annoying!

My FPS goes all the way down from 180 to 30.

I did everything I can,

- Did a thermal repaste

- Replaced heat sink

- Used MSI After burner and Throttlestop

- Contacted Dell Support ( which is useless )

My Specs:

Alienware Area 51-m Laptop

Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz

RTX 2080(8GB)

64 GB RAM

(Bought this laptop for my studies as a Graphical Designer)

I'm in need of desperate help!

Most likely its overheating, put a limit on the fps and you most likely will see it happen far less. You should limit the fps to the hz you are running on the screen.

It wouldn't matter if you replaced heat sink or the thermal paste. If you still let the gpu go full power it is gonna generate a whole lot of heat.
Laptops have poor airflow and that means cooling is restricted. Likely it can't push enough air over components and out faster enough to keep temps down. That means higher temps and things throttling to cool down.

Also have they usually have power options set to throttle when not plugged in to save power. Can be changed in windows power options.

If it is temperature related you could try a laptop cooling board.

Otherwise capping FPS will help lower temps
Do you use the laptop plugged in or in battery mode?
The latter will downclock your CPU/GPU at every opportunity to save battery life.
Go into your Windows System settings, under ENERGY OPTIONS and set your system to always run at "MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE".
That should prevent the downclocking of your GPU while the laptop is not plugged in.
Will drain your battery much faster though.

its a laptop
power delivery and cooling will make a huge difference on performance

make sure its fully charged and plugged in when gaming
and get a laptop cooling pad to help keep temps in check
As others have said, as it's a laptop, it might be down to power or heat.

One other thing to check might be to set the power management mode to "prefer maximum performance" in the nVidia control panel (not to be confused with Windows power settings). Some programs don't demand a lot of the GPU at all times and the GPU may downclock at these times. it SHOULD clock back up when needed, but with some programs it may not. if this does nothing to help, I'd set it back.
It's not your laptop, it's your ac adapter throttling because it gets too hot. Don't use high performance powerplan, use balanced. Keep the charging block on a floor to keep it cool.
