When GPU prices'll start to go down?
I just checked my local store - rtx 3080 recently went from 1300 euros up to 1658 euros. Wtf, does somebody know when all this crypto currency boom will start to go down? So far I'm fine with my hardware for a year or two, but it's really concerning how we'll be able to buy new GPU in the future. Seriously, for an average tax payer it's impossible to buy brand new GPU when prices are this crazy.

Silicon shortages are expected to last until 2022 or longer, this whole year is going to be pretty bad.

GPU prices will start to tank whenever the scalpers start to dwindle and cryptocurrency mining dies down again.

Considering the "real" price of the RTX 3080 is around 700€, i'm guessing 2 year at the least.
Same time next year
Good question.

It is mostly dependent on bitcoin value. If it crashes, many second hand cards will be available.
If not, then I expect it will continue to be bad.

Also in a few months it will be summer in the northern hemisphere, so less incentive to stay inside, play PC games and buy a new GPU.

Also by then, the vaccine situation will have progressed also, so less incentive to stay inside, play PC games and update graphics cards.

It is all about supply & demand.

Not anytime soon. I'm just thankful I got my 3070 when I did, in mid January. Looking at the store's website that I bought it from, the price has increased quite significantly since then.

Yeah, won't get better anytime soon and it's getting reeaaally unfair. I paid a bit over 800 euros for 3080 Asus TUF. Now I've seen same 3080 model being sold for as high as 1200 and 3070 prices going near to 800 or even over.
Well my pc shop here in Perth Western Australia hasn't had any 3xxx series in stock at all, so guess i can't answer your question on that.

This probably answers your question as well.

Nvidia are bringing out new versions that will not work for miners and producing separate versions that are no good for gamers as they will be configured to benefit mining. That should end this craziness, that being said we will still have to wait for chip producers to get over the worldwide backlog and back to some semblance of normal production.

Thats going to take awhile yet, prices should start to return to some normal levels then. Time frame is anyones guess right now.

Well i'm just glad i ended up going for my EVGA Super 2080 FTW3 Ultra when i did late last year as my 1080 Ti decided to end its life and i was going to use the warranty to get a 3080, that was 4 months ago.
Well, if you have a newish gpu, start mining yourself, atleast you can earn something while your not gaming, my 1080ti's earn about a fiver a day each (well will do when I rebuild the loop) and my 3090FE makes me about a tenner a day, it's looking like my 5 month wait for my 3090 strix may be over next week and I'll be setting that up to mine when I'm not gaming also.

at this point, you are just wasting money if you don't mine on your cards in down time.

Oh and Nvidia's mining locks only work on etherium, you can still mine other stuff no issues so I don't expect that to help in the least.

I heard those specific cards, can be modified for miners.
The prices will go down when supply outpaces demand OP. The demand is very high right now and with stocks being severely limited they can pretty much charge whatever they want because people will pay to get their hands on the parts when they do become available.
Im still waiting on my 5900x i ordered on release day, seems to me they are more difficult to get your hands on than cards at the moment.

I think it will be late this year before it all evens out.

nVidia's decision does nothing to benefit gamers and serves only to improve their bottom line.

It's not going to do crap. NVIDIA is just saying things to keep gamers at ease and buying their GPUs, when in reality they don't actually care and are not at all hindering miners.

The limitation for mining on the 3060, only affects Etherium and none of the other currencies. You can still use 100% hash rate for bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
when gpu makers release more of them dedicated crypto gpus.
