GPU prices will start to tank whenever the scalpers start to dwindle and cryptocurrency mining dies down again.
It is mostly dependent on bitcoin value. If it crashes, many second hand cards will be available.
If not, then I expect it will continue to be bad.
Also in a few months it will be summer in the northern hemisphere, so less incentive to stay inside, play PC games and buy a new GPU.
Also by then, the vaccine situation will have progressed also, so less incentive to stay inside, play PC games and update graphics cards.
It is all about supply & demand.
Yeah, won't get better anytime soon and it's getting reeaaally unfair. I paid a bit over 800 euros for 3080 Asus TUF. Now I've seen same 3080 model being sold for as high as 1200 and 3070 prices going near to 800 or even over.
This probably answers your question as well.

Thats going to take awhile yet, prices should start to return to some normal levels then. Time frame is anyones guess right now.
at this point, you are just wasting money if you don't mine on your cards in down time.
Oh and Nvidia's mining locks only work on etherium, you can still mine other stuff no issues so I don't expect that to help in the least.
I heard those specific cards, can be modified for miners.
I think it will be late this year before it all evens out.
The limitation for mining on the 3060, only affects Etherium and none of the other currencies. You can still use 100% hash rate for bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
