Games running integrated graphics instead of dedicated graphics
So I've never really had problems with how my games ran until really just overnight, I am playing outer wilds and before now it ran below 60 fps but above 50, can't remember exactly but it was good enough for me to play. I have a HP Pavilion 15 gaming laptop with an AMD Ryzen 5 4600H processor and NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1650 dedicated graphics. Using the NVIDIA control panel and running it as administrator I set all my games including Outer Wilds to use high performance graphics card (NVIDIA), and this worked up until today. I updated my drivers and tried again but it still ran on I assume integrated graphics, around 5 FPS. I saw in the Manage 3D Settings menu that it said, "Windows OS now manages selection of the graphics processor." This has never been a problem before but I looked into it anyway and set my graphics settings to high performance from the Windows graphics settings options in Windows display settings, I opened the game again but was still hitting around 5 FPS. Also I would add I checked the task manager to see what GPU the game was running on but it didn't show whether it was using GPU 0 (NVIDIA) or 1 (AMD). I saw a comment on a video that said they didn't realize they were running on power saving mode, so I checked that, but I wasn't. I assume the problem is bigger and I may need to reinstall drivers or something but I'm not great with computers or laptops so if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great, thanks.

First thing would be to check for driver updates, I personally had the same problem until I updated the intel drivers then games would switch to the nvidia gpu no problem

might be best to do through the HP support assistant rather than windows since it will grab the proper driver for you

also check the nvidia control panel, you can choose what apps / games use the nvidia hardware

Depending on your motherboard, I have had to disable integrated graphics in the BIOS, UEFI.. Long time ago, The issue would be the motherboard specifics, and I think you will be hard pressed to upgrade a 1650 right now..

It's a laptop.

DDU wipe all the amd and Nvidia drivers in safe mode. Reboot and install latest amd chipset drivers and Nvidia gtx notebook (mobile) gpu driver

Thanks for the suggestions, I tried them all and they did not work but they were still good ones. Turns out it was a problem with the battery, when plugged in the game would hit less than 10 FPS but when unplugged it ran at 30 (Capped by I assume a battery saver). Not sure what exactly caused the problem but I did a hard reset of the battery and it works plugged in now, averaging around 55 FPS.
