Computer lagging with a 1050 ti.
Right, I can't cope with this anymore, I need help. My computer used to break 300 fps on minecraft (without optifine). Now it cant break 30 (with optifine) at the lowest settings on 3 chunks. I suspected this was something to do with the processes that were running, but I couldn't find anything. So I moved onto disk space, and I got it down to about 30gb left. Still, nothing. I got things like ccleaner to scan my pc, and clean it, and nothing. So I then thought it could be a virus. I scanned my pc with malware bytes, and I got a few pups, and 1 virus (still not good) but my performance didn't budge. I'm genuinely stumped, so I am asking steam to help me with this, as I cannot figure out the culprit. I will send as many screenshots as I can.

I use a ROG Gaming laptop, pretty sure I bought it back in 2017.

Game using the 1050ti?

Temperatures ok? The 1050ti heat up during gaming meaning is it being used?

Whats using up all the ram? App history in task manger maybe?

press windows key + x and click on settings then go to privacy. In background apps in the list on the left maybe turn off some stuff and reboot.

If you don't use windows game dvr press windows key + x and click on settings and go to gaming and turn off xbox gamebar.

Edit: Whoops, forgot to say. Yes, temperatures are normal, actually colder than normal.

1. The game I used to test it on was minecraft, but I mainly play rift games like vrchat, rec room, and others. I also play roblox. But not often.

2. Chrome is using most of the ram, but the other programs are either windows services like antimalware, or software that I want open like vegas pro, games, etc.

3. I do use gamebar for calling certain friends who only use xbox. But I'll try turning it off for a test, I'll update you on the results.

Update: Turning off the game bar sadly didn't help.

the mobile 1050ti is weaker than the desktop version
depends on the laptops power delivery and cooling

You say temperatures are fine, but part of me wants to say throttling still. I'm noticing maximum CPU frequency is dropping, and heavily, when load is even subtle... but perhaps I'm reading that chart wrong? (someone please correct me if I am.)

Modern Minecraft versions ARE getting heavier, but you should be getting far better results than that period, let alone at a render distances like that, and that would be true even the onboard video; I know as my much weaker laptop does better.

Make sure you're not going crazy on memory allocation to the JVM; with 8 GB of total RAM I wouldn't go over giving something like 3 GB or 4 GB to it. Likely not your problem as this would cause issues with high RAM use and stutters when the garbage collector kicks in rather than all around insanely low frame rates though, but worth mentioning.

Last thing to check is GeForce Experience. It's been known to cause frame rate limitations in this game in the past.

Laptop is 4 years old, take it apart and clean off all the thermal paste and redo that.
Blow out all dust from the entire laptop inside and out, check that the fan(s) are working properly and ramp up properly under load. Monitor CPU/GPU at all times (very easy to do at a glance with MSI Afterburner; then in Monitoring, set the CPU and GPU Temps to have a Tray Icon that Displays Temp *C; then you will always be able to see CPU & GPU Temps, no matter what you're doing); ensure neither CPU or GPU goes above 90*C at any time, if some something is wrong with the cooling. Often times you may need to purchase and replace the internal cooling fan(s) every so often; like every couple of years if you game on it alot.

Yeah, I've heard about doing this alot. I think I'll for once get off my arse and do it, I'll update you on the results. High hopes for this!

put new thermal paste on a pair of ps4 pros yesterday
last tech didnt use any and put the thernal pads on the choke coils instead of the mosfets
no wonder their fans were always at 100% and crashing after the previous repair job

if you do decide to do it yourself, be aware and put things back where they go again
take pics if you need to

Should be able to find a disassembly video on YouTube for your Laptop model.
Get rid of avast. get rid of ccleaner. Things like that are useless and shouldn't be on anyone's pc. Your network also appears to be maxing out, so obviously something is running in the background consuming valuable resources (i'm looking at you avast). 60% memory consumption is concerning so ram upgrade is recommended. And you want to be absolutely sure that minecraft is running on the 1050ti because there's a good chance windows picks your intel graphics adapter because it does support minecraft.

Defiantly get rod of any 3rd party anti virus crap. All you need is Defender and MalwareBytes

I've cleaned it out, and it's running faster than ever.

My laptops running fine now, I don't wanna risk anything, but thanks for the help!

Actually, this comment helped. I was gonna try do it myself, but I took this in mind because I don't wanna risk destroying anything.

1. I'll go remove the software now, thank you! 2. It doesn't seem to be maxing out anymore 3. Memory hasn't changed though, so I'll think about that. 4. Yes, I have made sure of that in nvidia settings, forcing minecraft to run with the high performance nvidia processor.

Desktops and Laptops you should take the time to take it apart in a way that allows you to blow out all the the dust within. Might need something like a hair-dryer + un-used paint brush as cheap useful tools to get this done. On Laptops usually not alot of dust gets inside where the Motherboard is, but it can. Blow out the Keyboard, Intake/Exhaust fan areas and also any Ports in the system.
