CPU overclock questions
I just build a new PC. Since I am new at CPU OC, I decided to use XTU instead of BIOS.

My CPU is i-7 9700k with base speed 3.60 GHz, turbo boost @ 4.90 GHz. The benchmark in XTU showed score around 3050 in default setting.

So I change all the core ratio to from 46x to 49x, and adjusted some IccMax to prevent EDP throttling. Now the score is around 3250.

I basically just watch some videos and copy their steps, I am not exactly sure what I was doing. So I got some questions:

1) Manufacturer stated base is 3.6 ghz and turbo is 4.9 ghz. Was there any point for me to change core ratio to 49x since it was going to run 4.9 ghz in turbo anyway? I assume CPU will auto adjust.

2) Should I also change cache ratio? Most video I found only tweak core ratio, what other setting I could tweak to improve performance in XTU?

There would be a small difference. The max turbo stated is 4.9Ghz for a single core.

4.9 GHz (1 Core), 4.8 GHz (2 Core), 4.7 GHz (4 Core), 4.6 GHz (6 / 8 Core) is how the 9700k turbo boost speeds break down depending on the number of cores in use/under load.

There's few cases where only one core is going to be under load. I'd expect 4.7/4.6ghz being the effective max clock you'd see in most cases under normal load/usage at wholly stock settings.

Yeah so when I do 49x for core ratio, I OC all cores to 4.9 GHz? Will OC interfere with turbo boost?

in bios, disable turbo and c states so it will not go to idle or alter the cpu multi
then when you oc it will stay at the mutli you set it to

Easiest thing to do to any PC where the CPU has a Turbo Clock is just go into the BIOS, disable anything to do with C-States (like C1E) and Disable Turbo Boost; then set the Base Clock so that it will run at what the Turbo would have been; such as Base Clock of 4.9 - 5.0 Ghz for a 9700K. Also enable XMP for your DRAM.
