I optimized my SSD by accident. Is it bad?
Read somewhere that I shouldn't be defragging SSDs and was looking around my SSD is it said needs optimization and never analyzed for I did. It didnt seem to defrag but says OK 0 days sine last retrim. Did I started a defragging on the SSD?

Windows knows the differences between an SSD and HDD. When you "Optimize" an SSD it will be TRIMed and not defragmented.

When you TRIM an SSD it will clean blocks which are designated as "empty" by the operating system. This makes writing to the SSD faster.

Windows does this all the time automatically in the background without you knowing.

SSD optimization (TRIM) is not the same as defragmentation and it's not bad for the SSD.

Win7 SP1 and later know the difference between a HDD vs SSD, so using MS Disk Defrag even on an SSD is safe as long as TRIM is actually enabled. There is a simple CMD you can do to check to ensure TRIM is enabled. When it is enabled, MS Disk Defrag will only do a TRIM Optimize on any connected SSD, so its fine. As it does not do a full file defrag and resort like it would do to a mechanical HDD. SSDs build up a cache over time that is all trash, TRIM Optimization takes care of that and wipes it clean.

ahh alright thanks for the replies

TRIMing too often can shorten an SSD's lifespan.

I prefer to set the automatic optimization to once a month rather than weekly.

Related question: is CCleaner multi-pass overwrite (for recycle bin) bad for the SSD?

Yes. And there is no benefit in doing this on an SSD. The actual data you are trying to overwrite will also not be overwritten due to wear leveling, all you will be doing is unnecessarily using TBW.

Don't bother using tools like Ccleaner. We aren't using Windows 95 anymore, Windows maintains itself now. All you are doing with these tools is wasting your time and risking it will break something.

I dont really see any point downloading a software to delete the files for you plus dont really trust those as well but CCleaner is a known brand. You can delete and clean up your SSD and other drives by cleaning up files with the Disk Cleanup plus search up online about how to delete temp files as well

In one year? CCleaner deletes 1-2GB of temp cache junk from my PC every single day.

But yea no reason to ever use the Free Space wipe option in CCleaner > Tools for any SSD. This is something you may want to use on a mechanical HDD as a simple and easy means to rid the MBR of old file data that still exists, as this gets held in the Free Space area of the drive should a file recovery need to take place. Please know that if you wipe free space on a drive, file recovery will be impossible for anything that was previously deleted on said drive.

I'v been using CCleaner for years now, i have yet to kill a SSD. I use it once a week to get rid of junk.

and what cleans so much, a browser history? Old windows or unnecessary files? I think this is fk lie because only windows 10 cleaning fiction can deleat 20 GB per year but you can delete a lot of other stuff by yourself 40GB l deleated yesterday

You could delete that much with Windows itself by
Running Disk Cleanup
Include System files
Check everything
-
Clear ALL Browser History/Cache
-

Done deal.
Yes CCleaner is handy but you dont specifically need it to free up space.

technically yes.

BUT so do installed games that reads and writes constantly on an SSD.

Practically speaking SSD's nowadays are pretty reliable as far as longevity goes , so i wouldn't worry about it much at all , under normal use it'll prolly still outlast you.

SSDs arent as crappy as they used to be, they tend to not run into those issues anymore if rarely at all.
