If in doubt, go Brown. Blues are best for typing, Reds are best for fast paced action/fps gaming, Browns are best for mixed use, or for the indecisive.

If I am not mistaken the Orange is Razers answer to Browns.

IMHO Blues are awesome, they are however noisy, annoyingly so without a noise cancelling headset.

this is purely a personal thing , what i like you may hate and vice versa , best thing to do is going to a computer store and try them yourself to see what you exactly like...

i personally like cherry reds myself... but again , this is all personal.

looking at the travel distance of the keystokes green are blue clickys, orange are browns and
yellow are reds.personally i like browns.one thing to keep in mind that i hate about my
corsair K95 is the bar light across the front of keyboard it lights up your monitor.can see it
quite well during dark areas in games.i painted it black to get rid of the glow on my screen
horrible idea for a keyboard IMO.this one may do the same looks pretty bright

I have a keyboard with Greens, Blackwidow Chroma V2, Greens are great and I would recommend them.
They are however lighter and shorter travel than blues, so that's worth mentioning. It does make noise though, when I first got it it was noisy and upset a few people in my house.

I would recommend staying away from browns (orange), they have nearly no tactile feedback, and just feel like dirt under the switches, I can't type on them for longer than a few sentences.
They're basically just reds that feel worse.

Reds (Yellow) are okay, but I prefer Blue type ('clicky') switches, they are usable, not what I would choose for 'gaming' and absolutely not what I would pick for typing. I would pick something stiffer, if you want a linear, like a Black or the sort.
Reds are to light for typing and produce finger ache. For gaming, I just don't see it a reasonable choice, click switches are faster, eliminate misclicks, and often cost less (if you look at actual switch cost.)
They feel great when typing too.

But, as some have already said, personal preference. You would need to feel it before you decide.

There are even some switches that you may like, from a category you hate, there are more switch variants than your usual Cherry and Razer ones.

I recommend trying blues and reds, browns are just a midway that does both things poorly.
(And I don't get why they're so praised.)

Though I should add, if you are getting a Razer keyboard, get one on sale.
They're good quality, they're built well, but they are over priced, 25-50% off is what you should go for.

I have used a cherry mx blue keyboard in the past it was fine. I have used linear keyboards scarcely and they seemed okay to use too. I am currently using a mecha membrane keyboard from razer and it isnt too bad. I type with my left hand utilsiing 3 fingers and my right hand using 1 mainly. So I type by very firmly smashing each key so it doesnt matter what switch type it is for me. I think I just want a smooth switch. I feel like all keyboards sound good but clicky is very nice. Idk I'm stuck between yellow and green however they both cost the same for me.

If you want a smooth fast switch then, I recommend the Yellow.
Since you're smashing it and not really feeling the switch, the Green would be mostly lost, and just make extra sound.

Though, side note, I would grab some o-rings either way, they dampen the bottom out sound (loud clunk when you press a key down), and should improve the feel of the switch, since it eliminates some post-travel.
They shouldn't cost much, about 5 dollars iirc.

Switch selection depends on your intended use. If you are intensely using a mechanical keyboard to play games, Linear or Tactile is a very ideal choice. The clicky switch is good but the typing sound is very loud.

Read on for the differences between the three types of linear, tactile, and clicky switches here:

My Huntsman mini has optical switches. They "click" but it's not obnoxious and now I prefer this to a membrane keyboard any day.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
