there are a few flavors or rgb led controllers
4 wire, +12v with pull down for each color rgb (all leds will be the same color)
3 wire, +5v/12v, gnd and ws2812b serial signal to to send rgb signal to each led in the strip (each led can be a different color)
the some mobos have headers for both styles, or you can use a separate led controller, or one thats usb to plug into a usb header on the mobo, and install drivers to control them
these all plug into their controller with a single cable to send pwm+ws2812b usign 6 wires
