Keeping motherboard on plastic surface
Is it okay to keep motherboard on plastic surface like shoe rack when i plug few GPUs on it for mining purpose?

Motherboard is a A88x G1 Sniper

Better than leaving it on metal and shorting something out..

pick up an atx open chassis/tray
https://www.ebay.com/itm/384211593463

or the cheapest full atx case for around $30-40 and cut it apart or use it without the side panels
https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16811295005

or the mining case

Metal and carpet are risky. Plastic, not so much.

And thanks for doing your part in contributing to the GPU shortage.

I don't recommend put motherboard on plastic or metal, unless plastic is antistatic or motherboard was mounted to metal bolt to ground (e.g. computer case). Antistatic mat connected to earth protective or anti-ESD bag is the safest way.

hang it on a line :D we've done that

I've read recently that apparently an anti-static bag isn't a completely risk free option, unless the bag is inside out. I guess they are made to protect from ESD on the inside but not so much on the outside.

This is less true to not true. The ESD bag shouldn't have a hole, a dust inside, and sliding/friction too much. Also, it must be completely closed.

Ah, then maybe it's something that is only technically true? From what I'm reading, they are meant to protect an object from ESD while inside the bag and not necessarily outside/on it, but it sounds like it's not at a greater risk despite that.

From what I understand, the main takeaway is to be careful as you normally would and not expect it to be extra protected because it is atop an "anti-static" bag.

Though there seems to be some claims of people adamant something was ruined when having used one this way (though with anecdotal evidence I guess you can probably find support for anything).

What misconception is people claimed ESD can be stopped. It can only be prevented to minimize ESD-damaged components incident.

About 80% of articles about ESD I have discovered are wrong. I was trained in my work for prevention ESD when I work with PCB board.

How do i find whether plastic is antistatic?

It should have label like that.

Or claimed in the product description.

I usually use a piece of flat cardboard when I do that. Plastic should be safe. If you have the little metal stands that attach the MB to the case, attach those to hold the MB up a little. Then nothing should touch. And get an anti-static strip for your wrist to keep your bodies static from harming anything.

Plastic is not ESD protective, unless it is special plastic.

How about keeping graphic cards on plastic shoe rack?
