3840x2160 Resolution Problems with Steam Games - FPS Drops
Majority of my Steam games can't be put to the resolution display of my monitor without dropping insane amount of FPS; Even though my monitor's display resolution is set to 3840x2160 and at 60hz refresh rate and runs perfectly fine with other games outside of Steam. My PC is hooked up to my TV (65 inch Roku Hisense 4K TV) and I have a SecurOMax HDMI Cable (4K 60Hz, HDCP 2.2, HDR, 18Gbps) so my games should be able to be displayed in the same resolution as my monitor display. However, this is not the case. In fact, majority of my Steam games have to be put to a 1920x1080 resolution in order to run properly.

Here are my current settings for my monitor display:

Another problem with this is that it messes up the game's coloration. Hard to explain, but will provide example below with Scarlet Nexus:

How Scarlet Nexus is suppose to look with 3840x2160 in-game resolution:

How Scarlet Nexus looks with 1920x1080 in-game resolution:

This happens with other Steam games I have such as RE2R, RE3R, DMC5, Death Stranding, and any other Steam game that has to be put to 1920x1080 resolution in order to run properly. Why does this happen? Is there a way to fix this? Could it have something to do with the HDMI cable I have? Could it be an HDR problem from my TV since the settings for HDMI 2.0 is greyed out and HDR also won't toggle on through my display settings on my PC? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

what GPU? maybe driver issues? Are you sure the hdmi cable is plugged into the GPU not the motherboard?

Settings of your screen and what screen it is is less important than your computer specs. Even a decade old potato could could run 4k in desktop.
Julien, cut it out. 2021 年 10 月 7 日 下午 12:49
5600XT does not provide enough computing power to display graphically demanding games at the specified resolution with the desired frame rate.

Depending on the GPU the HDMI port might be limited to 30fps at 4k and with vsync or another limiter enabled the PC wouldnt go above that

GPU is an AMD Radeon 5600XT. The HDMI cable is plugged into the back of the PC, not the actual GPU. Could that be it?

The HDMI cable is actually connected to the GPU's HDMI port from the outside, which means the HDMI port on the back of my PC is the one coming from the GPU. Can't be a problem with my GPU then since its connected already.

I mean your post is full of ambiguous claims. And the short of it is you have a very midrange GPU and you're trying to run some somewhat demanding games at 4K, when only a handful of GPU's can really manage that.

I don't think it's a problem with your configuration, it might be a problem with your expectations.

After all what games are you running at 4K without issue outside of Steam?

So chances are it's my GPU (on top of my expectations as you said.) So if I'm unable to fix the display resolution issue of not being able to run my Steam games at 3840x2160 like my monitor, then any fix on why it's overexposing my games when they have to be displayed at 1920x1080? By overexposing, I'm referring to the examples I provided.

amd advertises the card as "the ultimate graphics card for 1080p gaming"

You also need to look at the hdmi specs on the monitor model. If its hdmi 1.4 it supports 4k at a max 30Hz

5600 XT is better suited for 1080p or 1440p; nothing more.
So there is your problem. Nothing to do with Steam.

5600 XT is equal to RTX 2060.
They are previous gen mid range cards. Not for 4k gaming. You Need 6800 XT for 4k.
Of course you can play some low demanding games at 4k with your card, but not new AAA games.

I see. Welp, guess I misread/misunderstood this entire time but that explains that problem. Thank you for clearing it up!

Makes sense being able to play low demanding games in 4K. However, I’m pretty sure Black Ops: Cold War is running at a 3840x2160 resolution display and the game performs just fine for me. Isn’t that a pretty demanding game, especially on high settings (which I would say mine are)?

Well different game engines, may run better or worse on certain hardware and at certain resolutions levels of settings.

I mean Doom Engines typically deliver very high FPS on modest hardware at high settings and higher resolutions too.

But not everything is written in those engines (or IW5 engine in the case of Cold War) and those engines aren't golden hammers either. They have strengths and weaknesses.

In short different games will run differently, for a variety of reasons.

Also what you define as "fine" may not be universal. You need to define that a little more specifically. I mean if you're fine with say 40's FPS. That's OK. But that's not OK according to everyone else. So being clear about your performance kinda clears up that ambiguity.
