Double clicking issue?
So my mouse has been having double clicking issues and it gets frustrating when playing fps games with aim down sights. I end up having my weapon scope out at random times when I scope in. Could this be a hardware issue or a software issue?

Most likely an issue with the mouse. It seems quite common with certain brands and models.
Do you recommend that I should buy another mouse or fix it myself (never done it before.) This is the second time/ mouse that double clicks.

Some mice require a bit of cleaning, and in other instances either taking it apart and putting it back together or just tinkering with it.

Sometimes I have to put a flathead screwdriver under the right mouse button and pull up and it stops double clicking. For me it works for 6-8 months, then cleaning it again maybe the screwdriver thing again maybe not. If you do the screwdriver, be gentle, don't try to force anything or break anything.

Sometimes a bit of tlc or even hitting the button can fix it lol. Depends on the model mostly.

if the mouse was cheap, buy a new good one

if it was a good mouse $50+ repair it, or have a friend who can desolder repair it
most mice use a micro switch (similar to this but pull off the lever)
https://www.amazon.com/Cylewet-25Pcs-Switch-Arduino-CYT1073/dp/B073TYWX86/ref=asc_df_B073TYWX86/

look up teardown vid or guide on ifixit if its a good one

use a good soldering iron and solder sucker to remove the old ones

nice t12 iron with k tip, can desolder all 3 pins at the same time, use around 330c for lead free solder (add a small amount of 60/40 leaded solder to help the old solder melt easier)

60/40 solder with flux

solder sucker to clean the holes after the component is removed

I had that and ended up RMAing my mouse. I think it is the problem with micro switches and dust getting inside the mouse and damaging it.

It happens when the switch is worn out.
Either solder on a new switch inside the mouse, or buy a new mouse.
The switches simply will wear out over time through usage. Its normal.
I use Logitech mice and use them everyday, 8-12 hours a day for many years before they need to be replaced. Hardly have ever had to replace one within the warranty period.

Spraying a shot of Deoxit in there can help some times. Something to try before breaking out the soldering iron. (I've had to do both)
