None of my DX9 games want to work

So I initially thought the issue was with my Assassin's Creed 1 game not wanting to run in DX9, but now I tested other DX9 games, and NONE of them want to run. Is this an issue with Steam or my hardware? Is it my GPU, DX libraries, or a Windows problem? I hit Play on them and it looks like it wants to load something, but ends up not loading anything at all and just stops running and the Play button pops up again.

Did yo install your drivers?
Some people seemed to have the problem on Windows 10 and for some this fixed it: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

So far, Max Payne 2, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, and a few other DX9 games won't load. I've only tried the ones in my Steam library so far, but I'm sure it's either a problem with the current system's dx9 libraries and hooks or maybe it's strictly Steam. I'm not sure. I haven't had any changes apart from the usual Windows updates since I last played those games. The ironic part is Max Payne 1, which is a DX8 game, DOES work. So it seems to be strictly games that run ONLY on DX9 and require it. I don't know if it's corrupted DX9 libraries in my System 32 folder or an issue with Steam's DX libraries.

Might check the integrity of the game

right click on the game name , then properties-> Local files -> Check Integrity of ...
Also might need to reinstall DX 9

Assassins creed one redirect to ubisoft?

games that don't require online stuff run?

games might have the dx9 install file in them.

Just look for updates on Windows and for your graphics driver
Then look at the link I posted
If that doesn't work, try to start a game and check windows event viewer if there's any errors or warnings being created.

I did that with AC 1 and it didn't help. I actually even ran the DXsetup files in that one, and they installed the ones that come with the game, and it still didn't help.

They work fine. Like I said, it seems to be strictly limited to DX9 games. And if I hadn't tried to start up AC in DX9 mode today again, I wouldn't have even known that it had stopped working some time ago. I don't know when and how it broke.

max payne forum has crash stuff. Maybe try rebooting the pc after applying the fix.

Try running the game and steam as administrator, lower the resolution before launching, change Compatibility mode to windows98.

Nope. None of it helps. The Event Viewer keeps throwing up the same error I posted above. The thing is that the error doesn't even say what offending file or issue it is. After I performed an SFC scan of System 32, it showed no integrity violations. I reinstalled the DX libraries in Steamworks Shared. Still didn't help. Could it possibly be outdated GPU drivers? Mine are currently 456.71.

I also just tried running Spec Ops: The Line. That game instead temporarily switched my desktop resolution to 800 x 600, and then threw up a Fatal Error report indicating some random missing files. At which point the game closed and desktop returned to normal. So they don't even all close or crash the same way, but they do all equally fail to load. So it seems to be specifically related to DX9 games. Max Payne 1 works cause it's only DX8. I haven't tried reinstalling the Microsoft DirectX® End-User Runtime libraries though.

Try disabling Windows game bar ! it helped me . In my case only DX9 games work , not DX10/11 . This fixed the isue .
