Can power cable affect performance?
Hi, it's really simple actually, my laptop used to give 60, ate least 30 fps at most games. Last month a cleaning lady tripped on the cable and kicked the soul of it to pc heaven. My laptop's power cable and battery got fried so I repaired it. Since it came back now all games (dark souls 3) are at 15 or 10 fps max. I think the problem is that I bought another power cable online and altough all the values are same as the original one, they can be false. Let's assume that any other component did not fry.

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz
Video Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics 630
Video Card #2: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050
RAM: 16 GB

It's not bonkers but 15 fps at dark souls 3? Come on!

yes

battery and power adapter on laptops can effect their performance
laptops dedicated gpu is restricted by power delivery and cooling
plugged in and fully charged will give better performance

and make sure the game is set to use the 1050 not the intel hd

Don't repair laptop's battery or charging components. Just buy the new genuine parts. Repairing can alter their voltage / current / wattage. It could harm the laptop. My previous Asus gaming laptop died because i repaired the original charger (from a 3rd party shop).

And you're sure the issue isnt that the games arent being run on the 1050?

Do you have the performance power plan set?
Tried updating or DDU'ing the NVIDIA driver?
Sounds like you fried your gtx and games are running on Intel graphics.

That makes sense actually, don't know how the intel got set as default but maybe thats the problem. Do you know how can I 'set 1050 back?'

That's really good advice but hard to follow when your countrie's economy is down the drain and a component is 10 times more expensive to buy. Didnt want to give what you would have given to a new pc just for an adaptor.

Either not running on the GPU or the knock also loosened the heatsinks or cracked old thermal paste.

The Intel always is the default gpu unless the user manually sets the nvidia gpu as default which is still needed on such systems such as laptops to ensure games use the nvidia gpu. How is it you would not know this. Since you would have had to change to the nvidia as the default for games to use it in the first place. A simple driver update may have reset all of those settings, very easy to fix. Don't allow auto driver updates, learn how to disable that.

DDU wipe all gpu drivers, and Disable the auto driver install feature of Windows. Then reboot and install the latest drivers from the Chipset makers sites for...

Intel Chipset INF

Intel UHD 630 series gpu

Nvidia GTX 10 series (notebook) gpu

Reboot after each install completes. When all done, open nvidia control panel and set the high performance gpu as the default.

You also must run off of wall power to get full system hardware performance. While Games might run ok while on battery, they won't hit the higher fps like on wall power because the cpu/gpu will be forced into a much lower power state due to the lower output of the laptop battery compared to the power brick.
