So what.
For those who have the 6GB version , with AMD fidelity FX super resolution coming to a lot of games, are going to do just fine it seems.
Then don't post in this thread.
People are entitled to their opinions. I'm not sure how thinking a graphics card is "junk" is rude, but I suppose you are also entitled to your own opinion. It sparks a discussion about how maybe a specific graphics card isn't junk, or how consoles aren't junk. Several responses could've been set as the thread answer, such as how the majority of steam users would, for obvious reasons, be using mid-level hardware.
And? I bet if you looked around that you'd see similar conversations about public data. You could even relate this to politics and news. People discussing real world events that lots of people already have access to.
Again, people entitled to their own opinions.
Again, it already could've been marked with an answer. Also, its our time to waste. If we want to type on this forum thread, it's our ability to do so.
Does it matter?
If you just take the raw numbers, it has 6tflops, about the gpu power of the xbox one X.
But you have to remember, that most people play at 1080p resolution. And the 1060 will do an ok job at it.
I personally have an rx 580 8gb and i am ok with it, even at 1440p resolution. Of course i can't always max everything out but i am ok from what i get.
And just wait for the semiconductor/gpu shortage to end, so we can all buy gpus at msrp.
my 4 pcs i use i dont need that fancy hi end junk :P
Many people say it's a decent graphics card because for many people, it still is, and yes it is aging, but I explained that nothing has really come alone at its original price level that offers both a good value and a good jump over what many people now have, which is why it remains popular.
It honestly sounds like you had/have higher expectations that it did not meet, which in itself is fine (and it seems you learned this as you expressed regret over not buying higher), but then the card was a poor fit for you to begin with.
main screen is a 40 in SEKI HDTV 120 HZ
and my second screen is only 60 HZ so it works out fine for me
am i looking for a new card ?
yep, been on the EVGA wait list for months for a 3060 ti, or even a 3060 ..may pick up a RX 6600xt when they ship ..as i don't need a real expensive GPU for the games i play .. most are older titles ( kinda regret not snapping up a sapphire RX 5700XT when my local microcenter had em @ $399 last year )
Also, with AMD FSR, more GPU intensive games would benefit from FSR in supported games, so there's nothing wrong with the card. In fact, with FSR, one could say the 'lifespan' or usability of the card has been extended. Put it this way, my GTX 1080 (i7 4770K, 16GB RAM) can now handle Godfall at 4K with FSR preset at 'Quality', looks good and plays well enough.
While I'd not call the GTX 1060 a good gaming card, it certainly is 'good enough' for a vast majority of games at 1080P. It is certainly NOT 'junk' as some might describe it. This is so even though nVidia themselves do not seem to care or want to help uplift the performance of their own GTX cards. It seems all they care about is getting peeps to buy into their marketing that RT is the be all, and end all when it comes to gaming.
The GTX 1000 series are capable and good enough for rasterized gaming despite the lack of Tensor cores and for DLSS and RT. I'm awaiting the day when GPU's can do RT (NOT RTX) at native 4K with at least 100fps, then there'd be no need for upscaling tech like FSR and DLSS (necessary now as GPU's have not quite reach the level of 100fps + RT + 4K natively).
