AMD Dual core optimizer?
Went to check up my start up programs today and saw that this appeared out of nowhere. What is this used for and should it be in my startup?

Now there is something I haven't heard of in forever. That used to be something you'd use on older Athlon 64 X2s in the mid 2000s when dual cores were new in the times of Windows XP. I'm not sure if it has any purpose today or where it came from (AMD chipset drivers or some driver package maybe?).

I don't see this in my startup list though.

wow, that's kinda weird then. I just got the amd chipset driver bundle from AMD. I guess ill just disable it then.
You can uninstall it from apps and features. It comes as part of the setup of some older games. I forgot which ones.
Have you installed any old games lately? For some reason Batman Arkham City comes to mind, but I could be mistaken. I think the old Borderlands series will also install it.
Anyways, feel free to uninstall it.

Oh okay, that makes more sense. I've been playing arma 3, ff7, and half life, maybe it came from there. thanks.

FF-VII comes with DirectX and Visual C++, so it wasn't that.

Half-Life doesn't come with any dependencies.

Arma 3 comes with DirectX, Visual C++ and .NET. So it wasn't that either.

Should be something from the early 2000.
Some games include that, i recommend to remove it
Ah, if games include it, that might explain it too. I found it odd that modern AMD drivers would include it if it's not needed anymore. Some games may be seeing an unidentified AMD string and presuming it may be needed, so it installs it.
