I think something is wrong with my setup
Hi all

First of all I will leave here my pc specs so you can get my point better:

GPU: RTX 2080TI
CPU: I9 9900K 5.1GHz
RAM: 32 GB 3200 Mhz
MB: MSI Z390 PRO CARBON AC
PW: 1000 W (I don't know the manufacturer)

Well, with this rig I SHOULD be able to play games at 2K without any problems. And I mean it should because right not it isn't

Games like Horizon Zero Dawn, Ark, RDR2... I can't play at ultra without huge FPS drops or inestability, I'm having to play some games at a lower resolution (1080p) to actually get to 60 fps and even in that case I'm having some fps drops.

I have tried everything I have seen in forums around google yet nothing seems to be working here. Drivers are fine, reinstalled and clean, No high temps, everything up to date...

What I'm missing here?
Also If I turn XMP and Game boost in BIOS it will most likely BSOD my PC after some time, wich really bothers me, so my ram it's actually running at 2133 Mhz instead of 3200

2133 will give you lower fps than 3200.

Can you turn on XMP with game boost off?

Yes I tried multiple times, as I said it will likely crash my entire PC with a Blue Screen of Death.

I also tried using only Game Boost

Game boost + XMP

All end up with my PC either freezing or directly crashing after some use, it may be after a couple of minutes or after hours...

First thing is to find the point at which your RAM becomes unstable. Set CPU to stock settings and manually set the RAM speed. Start at 3200. If that crashes, go drop it down to 2933.

Once you find the stable RAM setting, incrementally increase CPU clock speed.

I activated XMP now, noticeable boost on performance, now the fps go around 50 to 60 fps in the town, let's hope my PC doesn't suicide again

Have heard that you have to update the BIOS on that board. Maybe you can use your XMP after that. GL

Yeah, I'd try and figure out why XMP isn't stable because it should be. Your board should be handling it fine.

As for performance, I'm going to presume you're referring by 1440p by "2K" but 2K would be 1080p if anything. It's normal to see reduced performance with a higher resolution unless you're CPU limited.

Not all games will give 144 FPS+ all the time. Some may even see drops below 60 FPS on powerful hardware. Tune the settings. The modern habit of just setting everything to ultra isn't something I'd advise. Settings are made to be tuned, and often the highest settings incur drastic performance penalties for very small (usually unnoticeable) image quality gains. I'm not telling you that you should only expect medium settings here, but turning everything to Ultra in some games can result in a specific setting or two that really drags performance down for little quality reason.

RDR2 will allow for a more stable FPS at higher settings very soon. Next Tuesday RDR2 will have an update patch that adds NVIDIA DLSS options to the game.

CPU/GPU .draw a lot of power . it might prevent the RAM XMP , because it would add another pressure . Might disable turbo to see if it improves the stability .
