Best Wi-Fi Speed for My New Apartment
So I'm moving in August and I need to know what wi-fi plan I should get. My only choice is RCN (that's all the complex offers). I've heard that Gig internet is best for gamers. I don't really do multiplayer but I'd like fast downloads. I found a plan that's up to 940 Mbps, which comes to about $70 a month with the hardware (router/modem). Is that a good speed? I don't get it because I did a test of my current speed and it was only 24 Mbps.

1Gb is overkill unless you have special requirements. A 300 or 500 mbit download + 50 mbit upload plan will plenty.

Do not confuse megabits and megabytes, 1 megabyte = 8 megabit. If you are currently downloading at 24 megabyte you probably have a 200/250/300 megabit plan.

Sure, you could. It will be more then enough.

Ok. There's an option for Wi-Fi 6 but I'll stick with standard (probably 4 or 5). Save a few bucks. I think right now I have 4 at home.

Most modern devices have 802.11ac, which is Wi-Fi 5.

Wi-Fi 6 is nice, if you need the extra speed, but you probably do not yet have any devices using it. Unless you very recently bought a new computer/laptop.
Read all the fine print. When you say "with the hardware" does that mean they're tacking on rental fees? If so, ♥♥♥♥ them and buy your own modem/router.

The modem is $5.00 a month. Should I buy one?

Not everywhere you are able to buy your own modem/router. In some countries like the Netherlands it is written in law that they should allow you to do so.
I'll see if the complex will allow me to buy my own router.

Thanks for all the help.
As for the Internet itself ,100 Mbit/s is fine for me . i play multiplayer over 70Mb Internet and it s OK

we have TP-Link Archer C50 (4 antennas) .but i connected the PC using cable . Use it for cell phones as Wi-Fi

Yea paying a monthly rental fee is a pain and might cost more in a year then buying a modem outright. But the reason i rent my modem is that if anything happens to it i just take it in and get a new one free of charge.
My connection is 40 megabit, i pay $15 a month.
I can download a 10 GB game in 30 minutes.

Any more than 200-300 Mb is for family households where a half dozen devices are connected at once and gaming or streaming.

For one or two people in an apartment, it's plenty.

apartment suck for wifi
2.4ghz g/n only have 11/12 channels to pick from and overlay by +/-2ch, so really only 3 ssid can work without interfereing with each other

5ghz has many more channels to pick from with much lower range, its good for apartments
so any 5ghz router and 5ghz devices would be the best option

Not to mention that Wifi 6 offers the possibility for subchannels. While they offer less bandwidth, they don't have interference issues.
But both the access point and the device connected to the wifi must support that.
