they have input delays that can make pc gaming difficult
you can turn off many of the features that add delays, or put it to game mode to help, but it will always have a small delay compared to a monitor
desktop and k/m rts will be more difficult to use with the video delay
imho, 27in is too big for a 1080p monitor
and 42 4k would be about a good size for the monitor, but using a smart tv is a bad idea
I'd suggest looking at maybe a 32 or 34 inch 1440p; 165 or 240 Hz Monitor.
and most 4k tvs are not really 4k
iv repaired a few newer ones already that use a 4k panel, but the tcon and video processing looks to be done at 1080 and using some form of doublers to fake it as 4k for its display
While the 1080p doesnt look as good, the experience is much smoother.
I already own the 4k tv, and it is true 4k. was just curious as how gamers thought about it. I tried it, but I went back to my monitors. Just cant do it, too much imput lag, but seems fine if I use a steam controller.
Also there are no 3080 ti around, and the few that are, are massively over priced that only a fool would spend 3x mfsp for one. My GTX 1080ti is working fine, I was gonna wait for the 3080ti to drop in price, but I am gonna wait for the 4080 ti. The entire 3080 series is dead to me. lol
Reason I was curious is as I am getting older and was trying to downsize the area the bigger tv is nice but causes a headache as monitor, even though its about 3 feet away. So back to the tv stand it went. I am just gonna use the 2 1080p monitors for now.
No need for a GPU upgrade right now.
Higher hz will feel so much smoother even on the desktop.
Tried my TV years ago. Low input lag compared to most 4K TVs but besides looking pretty at 4k that was it. Screening like mad. Least on a lower res with higher hz any tearing is often replaced that quick you may not even notice. That won't happen on a 60hz display.....unless freesync/gsync. Only a few recent TV support freesync and thats irrelevant with a Nvidia GPU anyway.
Look at the sticker information on the back of the TV if not sure.
make sure it supports gsync/freesync so it will lower the refresh rate to the gpus output when it cant hold 144fps
Thanks, yeah, the crisp 4k looks AMAZING, but I cant handle how slow it feels, at 60hz, Never thought I would notice it, but on a TV I do so much.
1440p not supported
Sorry, not looking to buy more monitors atm, saving for other purchases, but I do agree that sounds nice.
vizio smartcast e43u-d2 its a few years old, but I use it for my cable, I have used it as a 1920x1080 p monitor in the past when I had my gullbladder removed, but I was using a super long hdmi cable and a wireless keyboard to mirror my monitor so I could use it from bed.
After 2 years I never actually tried it at 4k(it defaults to 4k at 30hz, so I have to change it manually)
It looks AMAZING. And my gpu was able to handle the games I tossed at it with ease.
I dont play warzone, csgo or competitive pvp games, so input lag is not a general factor. But it just felt so slugging scrolling the mouse, from top left to bottom right, even with increased mouse dpi.
And I hate to say it, once you go multi monitor, you never go single again. Atleast for me.
So Ill stick with the 2 1080p and either when the 3080ti goes to normal pricing or when the 4080s drop, Ill consider a true 4k monitor.
Thus I will take the 4k image and a huge screen over almost anything else. Which is why I bought a 55" LG CX OLED (before that I had a cheap 43" LG LED 4k, which is what decided me that I wanted even better/bigger 4k).
I don't notice any input lag myself on the OLED (using Game), but again, not the type to notice if it's not extreme. And I do have a 1440 monitor dualed with the TV (side by side on my desk) for many other tasks ... I don't tend to use the OLED as a desktop very often.
Edit: hubby uses a large QLED 4k TV as a desktop (vs. 4 1080 screens) and he likes it. That's an expensive non-OLED TV tho, it costs about as much as the OLED actually. Don't think there's been any mouse scrolling issue for him but I do know what you mean re: that. Just had to speed the mouse up a bit.
Thank you for your input. My mouse has a DPI switch, so I can increase its scroll speed. I have to increase it when using the TV, and because I dont use it at that speed, it felt a little alien. I still think I might end up getting a 4k monitor later on just for rgs games, Ill make sure its 27 inches to match my curent setup.
Don't need 120/144+ fps to feel the benefits of a higher hz display. Just moving the mouse around the desktop feels much smoother.
Without Gsync/Freesync users will get tearing. On a 60 hz panel is easily noticable where as on a higher hz display in the 60 fps region it draws the image more frequently and can make tearing less noticable. Still there but less noticable.
Not all TV mean high input lag.
I'm using a 43" 4k 144hz monitor as my main display, 1440p as secondary. I've tried a few TVs but never enjoyed using them for my PC see notes above.
It's not just this or that. The actual TV is a deciding factor. For me if it's not 120hz or higher I just can't get used to it. Sure it may look prettier resolution wise but just move the cursor is ewww
With games ... it's so rare for me. Dunno. Maybe I just don't play games that have issues re: that, at least at 60-ish fps/hz *shrug* Edit: my OLED is 120 capable but I don't have it set up for it at the moment. I'm fine with 60 everything, so since it doesn't bother me as it is, just don't care at the moment.
