Laptop Suggestion for Business/Productivity (~$500)
I haven't been in the market for a laptop in quite a while so I'm not really sure what to look for in 2021.. My mom needs a laptop just for business, work, and general productivity not for gaming. What do you guys think the best I can do is for around the 500 dollar price tag? Like I said she just need something fast and snappy for work and productivity, she won't be doing any rendering or gaming.

Focus on getting an SSD with enough storage for her needs, RAM (try for 16 GB), and screen size/quality.

I wouldn't really worry about IGP or a "low end CPU" as those are going to be secondary for her sort of uses.

Old platforms hold up fine for these sort of uses so just give it enough RAM, an SSD with enough space, then docus on the one part you'll be using to see into that virtual world (that said, you probably won't get a superb IPS display on a $500 laptop but I'm not sure).
what exact programs? if it's just word processing and powerpoint then you could go with a netbook or chromebook as they are rugged and cheap as heck

I've got it narrowed to either of the new HP Pavilion 15. Both are right at 800 (I decided to go up a little) but one has the 10th Gen Intel Quad Core i5-1035G1, 12GB DDR4 RAM, and a 256GB NVMe M.2 SSD while the other has a Ryzen 7 4700U, 8GB DDR4 RAM, and a 512GB PCIE SSD. Which do you think I should go for?

I feel like, especially with the increased budget, you should have been able to get 16 GB and more storage space, but that one should also be fine. 12 GB is plenty for basic use, and if you're not restrained by the amount of storage space that offers, then no, it won't be bad. Between the two options you mentioned, it's the slightly better one.
Get AMD APU , its better . 7nm technology gives advantages - low TDP , runs cooler and faster .

a guy posted one with Ryzen 5300U

Too late. She's not going to have any use of an APU anyways
APU is CPU as well !

AMD Ryzen 5 4500U is good too

The fact that it's an APU just means it has integrated graphics for 3D rendering which, for the record that Intel CPU also has. It might not be as fast but like I said. It's not going to be doing much if any 3D rendering at all. Just for business/work and general use.
DeathMetalJed , all products are good but some are better . You wont go wrong with any of the above posted . If you need speed AMD is better ! As for the ssd , the difference between NVMe M.2 and SATA ssd is negligible in real life / every day work .

It's already ordered my guy lol I'm telling you for the purposes of this laptop I don't need the slightly faster CPU. My mom will never know the difference...
