bluetooth 5.0 dongle?
i'm trying to add bluetooth 5.0 to my pc but all the usb dongles i could find are either fals advertised as bluetooth 5.0 and really are just 4.0 - 4.2 if you read the fine print or they seem to be exclusive audio transmitting devices. i'm confused!

thats another one thats advertised as "Bluetooth 5.0 USB Audio Transmitter" and somewhere in the ratings you can read its bascally just a external sound card.
i'm looking for a bluetooth 5.0 dongle that isn't limited to just audio transmission. stuff like sending/receiving files, connecting to a printer, keyboard and mouse, screen mirroring...

For normal devices like wireless mice, keyboards, controllers etc.. you do not need any of the functionality Bluetooth 5 offers.

5.0 is capable of short range high speed transmissions and more spyware advertising crap.

Higher number does not mean better. 4.0/4.1 is all you need.
what i read about bluetooth 5.0 its 2x faster than 4.2 which is always nice for file transmittion and has about 4x the range of 4.2. i know they are backwards compatible but since i already have a device capable of 5.0 it makes sense to go for a 5.0 dongle - if there are any. sofar i only see pcie wi-fi/wlan cards capable of "real" bluetooth 5.0.

what do you mean with the spyware advertising crap?

Bluetooth is used by Android, IOS and Windows to wirelessly send advertisements and other information between devices which are in close proximity. This way a phone or computer which is never connected to the internet can still be spied on, applications can be installed and advertisements can be pushed to it.
5.0 is just for certain audio devices.

If don't actually require 5.0, aa decent dongle with 4.2 should be fine.

5.0 will not make a difference on older devices that only require up to 4.2 such as game controllers

Which devices were you looking to use via BT?

Windows Mixed Reality Controllers
Was able to get ASUS USB-BT500 Bluetooth so I think I might be fine?
There is no real benefit to BT 5 over 4/4.2 for anything other than audio delay. Audio on BT 5 has lower latency than on BT 4/4.2 with the exception of the dongle and the receiving audio device using the Aptx-LL, Aptx Low Latency, codec that has a delay around 40ms. YOu can even use that codec on older BT versions going all the way down to BT 2.1

BT 4/4.2 will be fine for controllers, VR or otherwise. My Asus BT400 stays below 10 ms when using 2 DS4's. Only spike is when connecting the second controller but once connected it's returns to <10ms

Just one reason my BT is rarely turned on. Not just those that do all the spying either

Samsung Smart connect/Smart Things app allows you to show Samsung TV screen on your phone and your phones screen on a Samsung TV. Was updated over a year ago and now require BT permission and for it to be turned on. Lies. TV doesn't even have BT so it's obviously not a requirement to do something it could do before without it.

Only logical reason to want the permission on is to collect data from every BT device it comes into contact with. Why I got rid of my Smart/Spy Samsung TV and just use my PC monitor now. Not like I watched Live TV anyway.

You turning it off in software does not mean it's actually turned off. Proprietary operating systems will continue to use Bluetooth advertising even when it's off in software. Also the firmware blobs can not be trusted. The only way to ensure the device is turned off is by physically disconnecting it from power.

Most modern devices will screw you over by putting up artificial barries. "Wanna watch TV? Better connect me to the Wi-Fi and make an account or I am not going to work. Enjoy the ads I show whenever you change channel." As complex and relatively powerful computers get cheaper this stuff will only get worse.

Avoid smart crap like the plague.
