Really bad ghosting on VGA
Hello, even though my brother doesn't seem to care much, but his display has really, really bad ghosting. Now, I know you would probably say "Just use a digital signal" but his computer has no DVI slot and his monitor has no HDMI slot (what kind of monitor has no HDMI slot?) and we're not going to waste time/money on a converter just so he can have a pixel perfect output. I tried moving the VGA cable away from other cables but that did nothing. I feel like it could be cable or monitor damage. It looks like the image is smudged across the screen and it's most noticeable in high contrast conditions (white on black or black on white). I can't give a picture right now because we don't have a camera or anything, but I could attempt to recreate the effect in paint .net. I don't know why I'm posting this because he's kind of selfish when it comes to his stuff, but it just bothers me for some reason seeing that really bad ghosting.
By the way, my brother's monitor is: Acer K202HQL

Edit: I don't really wanna necropost but we once again managed to fix the problem. I told him it might be the cables in loose and he decided to reconnect them and he said there is no ghosting. I saw for myself and yep there's very little to no ghosting. Even though we managed to fix it ourselves just like in every other discussion I've made on here, I appreciate everyone who tried to help, thanks everyone!

Just FYI - you do not need a "converter" for dvi <=> hdmi, all you need is dvi-hdmi cable and those are really cheap, just like any cables.
If you do not want that... it is probably somehow related to power or some other hardware, wires, etc nearby. Troubleshooting it will be a pain and totally not worth the time.
One thing you can do is messing around with monitor settings, might be something can be done there...

it has 5ms respnce time
shouldnt ghost that bad at 60hz

make sure you are running it at the correct res 1600x900

you can get a dvi-hdmi adapter or cable

since its using analog, use the displays menu to change its timings to match the pc
hold menu or one of the buttons for defaults

Whelp...
I'm getting 2 resolution results for that model, 1366 and 1600
1 has VGA and HDMI while the other has DVI and VGA
So which one does he have?

Double check that the monitor is running at the correct frequency of 60hz, if its lower than that for some reason that could be the cause of the ghosting.

HDMI to DVI cable is all you need. As stated before - both are digital so you don't even need no converters and stuff like that.

He has the 1600x900 one. We haven't checked the refresh rate yet, but he's busy right now and I might have to convince him to let me check.

It should actually reduce ghosting at lower refresh rates. Because ghosting is when the pixel updates slower than the monitor changes 'frames.' So if you've got a LONGER time between those 'frame' changes, how can you have MORE ghosting?

Remember, that's not the average pixel response time, that's fastest recorded. So shouldn't be listened to.

I'm thinking the same thing - It could be a long shot, considering how old the monitor is, but you could look for a pixel / response time speed setting.

My brother isn't letting me mess with the settings. He's really selfish with this kind of stuff and he even turns off his monitor when someone looks at it, but he said he doesn't care if it's ghosting and he only cares if he can see the image.

Messing with the settings didn't seem to do anything, and the refresh rate is correct.

hit the menu button on the display
then auto, it will adjust the timings to match its input

That didn't fix it at all.

wrong way

https://www.newegg.com/p/231-003E-00021

make sure the display has the all of its pins for dvi-d
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fb/DVI_Connector_Types.svg

the 4 square around the bar in the connector are for analog, if it does not have those its dvi-d only

Well, right way is only $1.80, so bonus there! :)

All this is ofcourse assuming you have a spare cable lying around/can smooch one of a friend or relative.

that would use hdmi cable from pc and adapter on the display

Converters do not help. The ghosting is due to poor panel, not the connection. If going to convert, buy an "active dp male to vga female adapter" as all modern gpus have multiple dp ports. It wont help avoid the limitations that comes with using vga.
