older gen i7 processor on modern motherboards

i am looking to upgrade my computer with a new motherboard, new ram and a new PSU. the grapics card i'm looking to get is a Asus PRIME Z270-P or a Asus PRIME Z390-P but i was looking at the specs and it says it'll only support intel 8th and 9th gen PCU's? My current CPU and the one that i want to use is a intel i7 4790, will this CPU work in these motherboards? never did a motherboard swap so i'm kinda new to this.

yes problem is that the motherboard is a pain in the *** to put big cards in... i had a gtx 750ti before this one and it litteraly took half a day to just put it in

look for smaller cards .. they do sell those .. look at EGVA (go evga if ya can ..better warranty service ) as well as Zotac make some short cards .. and replace your system fans or add where ya can for airflow .. keep in mind your system is kinda old so give it a good cleaning out too and try to make sure you install at least 16 gig of ram if you wish to play demanding games

there is a plug ( i think usb) right next to the slot of the GPU, even the LP sits against that wire had to push against it,

if the usb header is interfering and it's not 2.0/3.0, I wouldn't even bother plugging the case leads into it. just use the high speed one

allright i'll take a look at it, i currently use allmost all my usb ports so i don't think it's smart to unplug it tough

well buy a different case then . remember acer PC's are not sold to be upgraded they are budget minded PC's i looked i can not find an inside pic of your PC ..i'm sure its tights in those .. i have worked on a few ..most SUCK ..sorry to say that .. but its the honest truth

your better off.............. build a new system ..then try to reuse what ya got

As I said, the cpu is sitting mostly idle with that gpu, so you would notice no difference in fps even buying the current top cpu/mobo/ram. If you have extra money, consider upgrading the gpu or save for the future to build a whole new box.

also i found a 2d hand R9 290 sapphire tri-X OC 4GB GPU for 60€ but the card might be toobig i think

yes i use a oculus from time to time (suprisingly my pc runs it pretty well)

do not even buy that ..those old AMD GPU's are not worth the problems you have to deal with with the drivers .. plus with a used GPU you have no idea how badly it was over clocked

look at a new GTX 1600 super or better
if you play in 1080 P for 1440 P look ay the GTX 1070 2060 or 1660ti cards

if ya wanna go AMD wait for the rx 5600 line for a budget card ..they should be out soon

My son got the GIGABYTE Geforce RTX 2060 MINI ITX OC for his mini itx build. He's been pretty happy with it and it's really small.

Well if i have to buy a new CPU i'll probably go ryzen, don't know if that affects the GPU choice?

and i can tell ya for a fact those AMD cards that your looking at your gonna need a new PSU anyway an r 9 290 is a pretty big card as well and may not even fit your case

i even had trouble fitting in my r 9 270 X card a few years ago ..and yep had to get a new PSU for it to run it in my system ..amd cards use more power ..dumped my amd card and went back to Nvidia (bought a GTX 960 strix model ) . never looked back

but even that old 960 sucks today
