I heard that people got banned because of it.
Very, VERY unlikely, far more likely, thst as with most bans, they were actually cheating.
It is, just use MSI Afterburner + RiveTuner Statistics Server.
Step by step:
1. Download the MSI Afterburner package from MSI's website and run the installer. Usually it gives you the option to install RivaTuner during the installation.
2. After the programs are installed, open MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner Statistics Server.
3. In RivaTuner:
-Make sure "Show On-Screen Display" is set to ON
-If you want to set a framerate limit, this is the best way to do it
-If you want to configure different RTSS profiles based on the game, you can add game executables to the list, by default there's only the global profile which affects almost everything
-Once your done, you can minimise it
4. In MSI Afterburner:
a) Open the settings and go to the Monitoring tab
b) There should be a list of active hardware monitoring graphs that you can enable; enabled graphs will say "In OSD" next to it
c) To enable graphs, simply click on it in the list and check "Show in On-Screen Display"
d) When you're done click Apply and OK
e) Optionally you can set a hotkey to toggle the On-Screen Display if desired
This works for both cpu and gpu.
But i don't know if it works for the cpu if you use an intel and i also don't know if nvidia has such a feature, but it would suprise me if they don't have something like this.
No game would ban you for monitoring your hardware temperatures. Just find some YouTube videos, preferably comparing your games with others using hardware sets. You will see the OSDs constantly.
Edit: only if you're not using Afterburner for anything else like gpu fan-control, that is.
it also logs min/max so even without a 2nd display you know the max temps they get to
Ive been using afterburner/rivatuner for over 10 years now and never got banned in any game
